Old school chevy 350 required, where in the UK?
Discussion
Not really corvette specific but this was the only chevy related bit of PH I could find! I'm in need of a fairly ordinary chevy 350 lump for a project car. It needs to be a complete engine as much as possible, the car it's going in originally had an I6 EFI engine so we don't have anything like carbs, water pump; anything like that which we have to buy extra will be additional expense so I reckon it makes sense to buy a lump as complete as possible. The prices I've seen so far for engines in the UK have been ridiculous IMO, I was hoping to pay £3-400 for a tired lump which I could then fully rebuild to my specs, or maybe £1200-1500 for something in the 350bhp range (that's all we need for this car really, limited by the strength of the transmission for now). Are my prices way off? They made about 60 bazillion (a rough estimate ) of these engines so I can't see why some people are asking £2k for a boggo lump of uncertain provenance . . .
Any ideas of where to look would be much appreciated! Alternatively, any ideas how much it costs to get an engine shipped in from the states?
Cheers

There is somebody selling a healthy 350 from a cobra kit car. Look in www.cobra-replica.co.uk under classifieds section. He was selling it fairly cheap.
Good luck

I have a 350 with heads & cam by Mickey Thompson, its fairly long in the tooth but was still running well. I had fitted a 650Cfm Speed demon Carb and Performer manifold last year and they would knock it out of your price range, but I still have the old carb & manifold, which could be refitted. The car is with Corvette Kingdom in Norfolk at the moment and the engine will be coming out over the next week or so, as soon as the body comes off. I am told by Corvette Kingdom that the price for a s/h 350 is about the 1000 mark, if you are interested around that price?

You want to try Real Steel in West Drayton (Middlesex/West London) - a bowtie engine from them I think starts at £1500 on a crate - that's a new motor from GM. They do various specs of this too if you want to splash more cash.
Alternatively why not look direct at the States and see if eric the brave can ship it over for you?
