The Swiss viper that did not make it to hockey.

He walked away even though the rescue services thought the driver was dead.

Motto never trust 335 tires and 450hp on very damp roads

Ouch!

Looks to me that the bonnet sort of got slid under the barrier there...

Which is something for us 'vette owners to consider as well, the idea of sliding nose first into a barrier only to get the snout under it and then a fair chunk of galvanised steel whacking across you!!!

Lucky, lucky boy! I was surprised that there were not more accidents given the weather on the drive to Hockenhiem.

Funny how all the accidents we saw were in Belgium.....home to the world's worst drivers!

How the hell did that Viper end up in that position?

Belgians aren't the world's worst drivers... Houstonians are... why do you think they do such a roaring trade in Corvette replacement parts :-)

here's the story

Marcus occasionally posts on the Viper forum, he told me about the accident Friday night and asked me to relay the message to Paul, as he was supposed to be meeting him at Hoenheim. He was gutted but lucky to walk from it with just a few sratches, luckily no one else involved and no one was in the passenger seat.

Really sorry for the guy. I know what it was like on Friday as from before midday until about 7 p.m. it rained everywhere we were in Europe. There was a lot of traffic and a lot of standing water on the motorways. I never felt less than safe in my Z06, but then again I have 4 tyres with less than 3000 miles on all of them. 335 tyres on wet roads.....not my idea of fun especially of they are worn.

Not sure about the worlds worst drivers but they must have some of the worlds most worn roads. At one point I would only use the outside lane as the groves in the other lanes were full of water and the 315's just wanted to float down the road. As for the weather, I had a quick look at some of the video Krenz shot on the trip and she shot a bit of us driving in the rain - It was really bad and a result that we all made it safe and sound.

The way the weather was going down there I'm amazed it didn't happen to one of us, following Nigel when all I could see was a wing atop a cloud of spray sure was scary.

I'd never drive that fast in those conditions in the UK in a prone-to-aqualplane Callaway(!), I just didn't want to get lost...

Was that a tiring drive down or what...
