Why are solicitors and other law boffs allowed to charge such extortionate amounts of money per hour?

Why do they charge around £300.00 to write a fking letter that they just get one of the office admin sleps to do anyway?

Why isn't there a cap on the earnings of these rat like creatures? They bleed clients and the state bone dry.

Could (in principle) a modern car be fitted with an old fashioned starting handle in case of a flat battery?

That's a tricky one. My first thought was the compression ratios might be a bit high now to hand-crank. The bigger issue I think is the disconnect between the rotation of the engine, and the spark plugs. Just turning the engine over won't automatically produce a spark, whereas in the days of distributors it would. So I think you'd have to find a way to get it to spark (and ensure the fuel is being supplied) for it to work. Generally a 'flat battery' is usually just a lack of enough current to turn the engine over, so I think you could still generate a spark/run the fuel pump, unless the battery was totally flat.

Hand cranking the engine won't pressurise the fuel injection system like an electric pump. I'd say that no, a hand crank wouldn't start a new car without some serious re-engineering.

The ignition timing is too far advanced on modern cars, if it wasn't retarded enough it would snap your arm off before you got it quarter of a turn.

But the flat battery might have enough to prime and run the injectors and ignition.

It only takes 20 minutes, and 20 years experience to write a letter, even one when the actual leg work is done by an admin bod.

As for over-sight there are Costs Lawyers who try to make sure the hours billed etc are fair and reasonable.

If it's such a rip off and money for old rope, why don't you do it. Or maybe you don't fancy the years of study and sacrifice required to get to that position.

Steve Austin the Six million dollar man had a bionic ear,did he have a switch so he could turn it on and off.
If he could not turn it off and there was a really loud noise just near him it would really make him jump.

Well firstly I'm not motivated by money that much. Secondly I couldn't charge people that amount and sleep at night, Thirdly I'm pretty well qualified in my chosen field and not adverse to study so that's got fk all to do with anything.

I just hate the fact that they charge so much because the only choice their clients have is to go to another solicitor who employs similar extortion tactics.

Don't even get me started on those car accident 'lawyers'

It's not just Solicitors, it's just things or people in life that take advantage of others. Plus most solicitors I've met have some sort of god complex

It was Jamie Summers, the 6 million dollar woman, that had the ear. No idea if she had an off switch though. Steve had a bionic eye (plus bionic legs, and a bionic arm...but when he lifted cars with it,he had no bionic spine in between,so should have been crushed!!)

Why is Lily Cole a model? Does anyone regard her as attractive? Do any men fantasise over her? Do any women want to look like her?
I've seen some pictures of her in the nude that look as though someone was performing an academic exercise to see if it was possible to produce a boring full frontal nude photo of a young woman. If so they succeeded.

She's written magazine articles that are perfectly competent so she's obviously bright. Has she mistaken herself for some glamorous bimbo?

I know someone who's daughter is a good friend of LC from school in Hammersmith, and apparently she's super bright and delightful to boot.

But from a looks point of view, I agree, very bland. But 10 times better looking than Kate Moss. If Kate Moss can be a supermodel, then my old mum is in with a shout of making the grade.

Does cough medicine actually do anything or is it just a placebo?

I have taken it but it never seems to help.
