Hello I'm just here for a bit of advice smile

Some points before I start -

I am 19
I have been at this place of work for 14 months
I am 'semi qualified'
I am (was) an apprentice
I have never seen a contract

Four Fridays ago I got made redundant and was told the last Friday of the month would be my last day. Fast forward to this week Monday and my boss asks me to stay on as they're busy. I accept his offer and carry on as usual. Today is payday, the two other apprentices reveal to me that they have a substantial pay rise, where as mine was the same as usual.
I am very angry by this as I do the same if not more work than the other two, the only thing they have on me is that they started before me.

Anyways, I speak to my boss and I tell him that I am not happy and I will not be staying on, to which he replies that I will have to stay on until next Wednesday as it is the last day of the month. I didn't query as I was too angry.

So now what do I do? Not turn up on Monday? Or do my time?

I seriously feel unfairly treated, I have very rarely put a foot wrong, always on time and willing to help out.

Thank you for any replies.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare but you probably need to consider a few things

The market is very tricky at the moment
By saying you will leave it sounds like you should follow through on that (you may not have any choice about that anyway)
There could be any number of reasons why you received a lower pay rise than you colleagues - did you get any indication from him?
Wherever you go next they will want a reference from your current employer.

If it were me I'd suck it up work through to Wednesday and try to keep my nose clean unless you have good grounds for constructive dismissal - which does not seem likely from your posting.

Suck it up , stay where you are for as long as you can.
You don't want to put a foot wrong at this stage, because your next employer will ask
questions to this one,you know like they do,you need a good work record.

Good luck young man.

Can he just change my final day just like that though? From the last Friday of the month and then to the last day of the month?

If you're still an apprentice, don't they have to at least try to find you a new and similar employer?

I don't really want anything from the company, just need to know about these last days and where I stand legally.

Do you have it in writing that your last day was the last Friday on the month?

If so, then don't turn up on Monday. They have given you notice, given the others a pay rise and are essentially mucking you around. You owe them nothing

I have absolutely nothing in writing, I don't have a contract or anything even though I have worked there for over a year.

As annoying as it is, I'd stick with it as long as you can unless you have another job lined up? In which case, with no contract, you have nothing to breach either. (That may be bks - I'm not a lawyer.)

Another thing: employers can give whomever they want pay rises. Be happy for your colleagues. It is insulting, of course, but is this an employer's market or an employee's market right now?

FWIW, whilst it's easy to get caught up in the anger (we've all been there!), why not simply ASK why you didn't get the same pay increase? And what do you have to do to qualify for this? Explain WHY you think you're worth the increase - cite examples.
At the same time, ask them what's going on with your end date (should you decide to eat some humble pie and stay).... get them to qualify exactly what's going on.... and in writing.

Otherwise, just don't turn up on Monday (or go in just to clear out your stuff).....
Good luck either way smile

I am not a jealous person, just felt insulted that they deserved a pay rise when my work quality and productivity ia greater than theirs. Of course I'm happy for them, a pay rise in this climate is good.

I have had a few offers for work so I am going to start next week fresh.

Thank you for your replies smile
