Really good, place here in Leeds has decent stocks of them in every size as well as cutting facility, think i pay about 30ish a look too which is good considering i have a portfolio of 26 so 52 locks to look after in total. After 2 burgalries in 2 days i decided enough was enough and started to fit out every house with those and the Hoppe PAS 24 handles. Not an ounce of bother since.

Nice big secured by design logo on the handle i think deters any scum from trying to get through.

Thanks for the link, just the ticket!
thanks for the info mate smile

ensure that size of handle is the one your after, there are 2 types of handles, screw at top and bottom, or screw below handle and bottom.

Chaps some advice please

I just fitted an abs lock on front door, my old lock was 50/50 so got like for like

Does it protrude out too much on the outside? It's like 3mm

I think 50/45 (ext) maybe just pushing it a little, what you think?

also been reading and bit worried about having the ABS on the front door, as if it snaps then i wont be able to get in and we dont really carry the back door key around with us.

im thinking maybe Mul-T-Lock XP for the front and the ABS for the other doors
I replaced all the locks with ABS, including the padlocks for the shed and garage, all keyed alike.

Your 3mm protrusion looks just fine to me.

is keyed alike a good idea?

if you end up losing or having a key stolen, then you'll probably have to change all cylinders as opposed to just changing the one cylinder that has the key missing.

Just to prove this sort of stuff works, I fitted a Mila Prosecure PAS24 handle set to a upvc door, but left the standard cheapo euro cylinder behind it. The difference in quality between this and a standard handle is night and day - it does seem very well put together. It weighs a tonne.

Last week there was a problem with the key - it still worked ok but I was told the key couldn't be removed from the lock unless the key was at an odd angle.
On removing the cylinder, it still works and the key still spins it, but it looks like it's been hit or spun that hard that the cam that operates the multipoint mechanism in the door has rotated relative to the key position, if that makes sense. Maybe an impact driver or something has been tried on it - there are marks of idiocy on the outer face of the cylinder but no actual peasant entry fortunately.

Speaking to someone with police computer access, it sounds like there's been a few successful door break ins locally in the last couple of weeks - and having shown a locksmith the broken cylinder he's convinced it's the result of a failed break in and reckons this is down to the handle and the restricted access it gives to the cylinder. Or maybe they just hit it once, failed and gave up.

New TS007 anti-pick, anti-bump, anti-drill, anti-nugget cylinder going in today smile

Yeah the handles are often overlooked, when infact the handle is the first line of defence, i fit the hoppe PAS24 handles to my whole portfolio. A nice fat secured by design logo on the outside should help deter scum.

Only if the key has an identifier on it. Anyone stealing / finding the key would need to know where it came from.

Just swapped the locks on our French doors to abs, bit of faffing around as had to drill into the frame to get at the screw for the Lock, this video helped a lot

Yeah, for me knowing that i had a lost key that can access all locks, would bother me a little. food for thought whilst i decide which to buy also.

My wife was concerned about losing a keyed alike key and having to replace all locks, until I pointed out that she has all her keys on one keyring anyway, so if we lost one we'd have lost the rest too.

Those who have used the hoppe pas24 handles

I've fitted my new ones today, the handle though do you just push them on or do you need to use the small Allen key thing to tighten it?

Can't really work out if there is a screw in the tiny hole or if it's only used to take the handle off

It should just push straight on, the tiny hole is just for taking the handle off again smile

I was about to buy a avocet ABS thumb turn lock but there is an advisory that you can be locked out if you dont return the thumb turn to its original position. Are there any other thumb turn locks that don't have this issue?

Yes, this is a problem. We've got this cylinder and have locked ourselves out twice in 6 months hehe

Is that a problem if you have to lock the door with the key?

I've never liked thumb turns - all too easy for a window to be smashed and someone to let themselves in by reaching round and undoing the turn, or for someone to gain access through another part of the property and to have an easy exit route.

Yes, if the thumbturn isn't in the correct position you won't be able to use the key at all, to lock the door or unlock the door.
