Gardening leave and holidays?

I handed in my resignation today and have been put on gardening leave for the duration. However, I have accrued 8 days holiday. They are insisting I take 2 weeks gardening leave and the following 2 weeks will effectively be my 8 days holiday. Can they do this? Do I have to take my holidays, or can i request to be paid for them?

I was on a 3 month notice and I got paid for the holidays accrued during that time.

If I had gone ON holiday during that time, the holidays would have been used up like normal.
