BMW won't want to acknowledge a failure in vehicle security, even if there is one. If they do, then can I claim from the manufacturer for my alloy wheels when they get nicked?
The reputational issue will be what gets them.

Does this issue affect 2011 cars onwards? I read somewhere that the only car affected were those made between 2007-2010, but I don't know how accurate this statement is.

Band0 said: Also, for those 6 & 7 series owners - appears you're safe from this issue Can I ask what makes you think this? Surely the locking tech would be the same for all the cars of the same 'vintage'? Maybe we've not seen reports of 6/7's going missing because they are much less common on the road, and hence would be a much smaller % of thefts?

Band0 said: One 525D M/S that went overnight Monday/Tuesday was found on tracker last night (Tuesday). All that was left was a shell, strangely enough with the tracker unit still in tact !? Clearly amatures - Thats a full strip in around 18 hours which again confirms they aint going out of the country. POSITIVE - another person detained !
Makes you wonder what is happening to the parts next after the strip down.

I read the other day that insurance companies will now use salvage parts where appropriate when repairing cars so that could be for the parts are going?

Got a quote for my E46 insurance and it jumped over £100 in 3 days by the time I had phoned them up! They of course couldn't give me a good reason why... I know officially the metal-cut keys aren't affected but it could be that insurers are just going off BMW's completely now? Glad I never bought that 135i now!

Band0 said: There are some reassurances that the new "F" series will NOT be able to stolen by this means, and to date there have been no 2012 models taken "without keys" Although the manufacturers of tech such as the edilock it suggests the device can do it I suspect they can be taken, and it's rather the fact that they are still so new that there is as yet too little demand for used parts for the 'F' cars...?

At least give us a source! I have no idea where this guy is getting his info but he knows what he is talking about. It was my 123D stolen from Sandwell and Dudley station yesterday!

I made that post last week, you say your 123d was stolen yesterday? So that's 2 cars stolen then or not the same car? I remain highly skeptical of any claims without sources. I may be either overly cynical or overly naive but there are some shocking claims made in this thread so want to see some credible sources. I am not doubting the issue exists but the numbers are staggering. Out of interest how did you find the thread?

Out of interest how did you find the thread? Check his post from 13:39 today. That 123D he is talking about is mine. I got back from work to find no car and broken glass where I had parked it. He definitely is getting accurate information from somewhere. My advice is to take his advice. I wish I had known about this before and I would have been able to do something about it like disable the obd port. Funny thing is I was actually finishing work early to get some new tyres fitted so if it had been today instead I would have been even more out of pocket!

Bad luck on losing the car. Has it been recovered? How did you find this thread? Does it appear on google? Did you get referred here?

How did you find this thread? Does it appear on google? Did you get referred here? Not heard anything about it being recovered yet. When talking to the police yesterday we couldn't work out how they had stolen it. I had all the keys and there is not enough space for them to get a flatbed to lift it. Was doing some research today on it and came across this thread. Then I was amazed that my car was mentioned on here. It seems this problem is becoming quite common. Last month Emmanuel Adebayor had his BMW stolen in the same way. Don't think it will hit him as hard financially as me though

I am sure most of the post are genuine however I cannot blame rich for being skeptical as I also feel this way about some of the posts. Noticed a couple for sure on the general forum with 0 posts who happen to find their way here tell us their car has been stolen and never appear again.

Well I don't blame you for being skeptical but I am only trying to help. I have only registered today to tell you guys that BandO is getting genuine information from somewhere as he mentioned my car on here. It's up to you whether or not to believe me put the police officers that were dealing with my case have confirmed it seems to fit in with this trend.

Like I said Mat most posts are genuine and I was not referring to yours as it is obvious from your previous explanation that yours is for real.
