I'm mulling whether to keep my LinkedIn account alive. Being as I can't make a decision without the input of a load of psychotic randoms off the internet, I thought I'd ask PH what they think of LinkedIn.

I think it's basically where people go to lie about how their mundane ghastly job is actually really brilliant and important and exciting.

I know I do.

You?

I think all these socialmedia things are basically st. But if you're not involved you do not exist to a vast number of people. Leave the account active and use it as an online CV and job hunting tool should you need it.

Not sure it's either st or brilliant. It's ok - always good to see who you are dealing with

No reason not to keep your LinkedIn account, surely? Not like it requires much ongoing maintenance...

The only social network I use is linkedin.

I've had a couple of good job prospects from it and although I didn't pursue them I'd not have been in the loop had it not been for my profile.

Better to be in it than out of it if you're in the employment market because you're competitors will be!

I think somewhere in between "st" and "brilliant." It's useful for making first contact, and for getting an idea of people's background. A lot of headhunters seem to think it's the only place in the world to find people.

Likewise. Useful to keep in touch with old colleagues and it's very visible to recruiters. HAve been approached a couple of times so well worthwhile IMO.

No time for facebook etc but LinkedIn is worthwhile.

It's a tool.

A blow torch is st if you leave it in the garage, but if you take it to all those stupid cushions she leaves on the sofa it becomes much more useful.

+1 seems to generate the odd enquiry for possible jobs, in fact i was contacted this week out of the blue by the recruitment team of a great company, so fingers crossed that comes off.

I've just spent some time bringing my profile bang up to date and have managed to secure some nice recommendations too... I've got the time to do this as I'm currently "tending to the garden"..

Whether it'll bring any returns, however, is another story entirely.. Maybe I'll check back in and let you know...

There's not much point just updating the profile and sitting back. You have to be a bit proactive. See it as a billboard. You still have to get people to see the signage.

Sometimes simply just clicking somebody's profile is enough if you set your account to leave a footprint. Then you will show up in 'who viewed my profile'. Assuming the person you clicked is active enough and vain enough to look at this bit they may click back through to your profile if their curiosity is pique.

I dont mind it, i would take the middle ground between the 2 options given.

Recently had some interesting prospects come through it, but saying that, half of the profiles of my connections are full of crap...

Most of my new contacts and potential clients come from LI (audits). You get out of it what you invest into it.

It's a business tool and for me is not about social media.
I never post or read posts all I care about are the business contacts.
Sums it up for me too. Made lots of contacts and had s fee interviews/offers. Handy to look people up too.
