I want to clean the rear bit where a number plat has been stuck on using the double sided foam adhesive tape.

What gets this stuff off?

WD40 or a hairdryer are usually ok.

although a proper tar and glue remover would be better, but I'm guessing that you dont have any or you wouldn't be asking smile

Thanks. I've got WD40 - I didn't think of that. I tried tar remover but that didn't really shift it

Heating it normally allows the excess to be peeled off, leaving just glue residue..

The glue residue can be dealt with by way of Tar and Glue Remover

Petrol is a skinflint alternative, it will dissolve adhesive. Repeatedly dab it on and eventually it'll wipe off and you can re-polish the paintwork.

Or you can use this:

You will need a drill to use this, but this roll is the quickest and least painful way to remove the tape. It will also not damage the paintwork, just make sure you don't catch any plastic bits, as it will probably burn a hole in them.

Cheers!

Just make sure you use that at a low speed! I've used one before at too high a speed on a domestic drill and it took the lacquer off my paint redface

Panel wipe, that you use to clean a body panel before painting, is the answer 99% of the time here.

It depends on the tape used. Some come off with panel wipe ok, but most are a nightmare to remove and if time is important, it's difficult to beat that roll...

I would not recomend using a candy wheel on any painted plastic part ie bumpers,
it is very easy to remove the paint aswell.
As mention above it's always safe on painted metal parts.

But it is one of the fastest (but not the cleanest) method of removing adhesive pads and stripes.
