Hello. I'm from the UK but currently living in California. I'm looking to buy a Viper here and then take it back to the UK with me when my contract here finishes. How complicated is it to import a Viper to the UK from the US and register it? What sort of costs are involved? When I moved here I wanted to take my UK car (Skyline GTR33) to the US with me but that was far too costly and complicated. It required major modifications to the car that would have cost $17k, over and above the costs to ship the car. Hopefully it's not so complicated and expensive the other way round! Cheers,

Hamish

Its quite easy apparently although I wimped out an brought one that was already here. Shoebag has done an excellent article on the club site www.ukviperclub.org/page21.html on the how she imported hers.

I’m sure some of the other’s that have been through it will chime in later but it’s a bit quiet around here at the mo as we have our big bbq event this weekend and many members are already on the road.

I noticed on that link about paying the customs duty plus VAT on the cost of the car once it arrives in the UK. But what proof is required of the purchase price of the car? I would almost certainly be buying the car from a private seller...

You may want to check out this post in GG as that exact question was asked, if you have owned the car for more than 6 months prior to your return you may also find you don’t have to pay the government a penny, but I would get that confirmed from HMC&E if I were you.
