I've had confirmation that the garage door will be fitted on Saturday, which is right at the end of the 1 to 3 week window they gave me rolleyes, the electricians have also been booked to start on the Monday after for the second fix.

I'm planning on getting the painting finished this week, and the trench for the cables finished at the weekend.

Painting not quite finished, but only the back wall and woodwork to do, so noting that will be hindered by the door being fitted.

Looking forward to parking my car in there tomorrow!

The main progress on the 119 project this weekend is that the garage door has been fitted:

I went for a Hormann EPU sectional door, with the remote opener, so it should be well insulated and secure.

Two of the walls have had their third coat of paint and are looking pretty good, I was hoping to get the back wall done today, but ran out of time and daylight.

The only problem is that there isn't going to be enough clearance to have lights above the door in the open position, so I think I'm going to have to have the lights on the walls. Or is there another option that I'm missing out?

I've got to have the extension lead from the house to open/close the door as the electrics haven't been connected yet. I spent this afternoon digging the trench for the armoured cable and generally tidying up the garden after a month of builders working in it, which was pretty hard going in the heat today. The electricians are coming round tomorrow to hook it all up, although I'm not sure if they are fitting the rest of the lights/sockets/alarm tomorrow or not.

ETA: The MIL and her sister came round and took a lot of the "important stuff" that was stored in the old garage, which we couldn't throw out, the back room is looking a lot emptier now and we should be able to finish emptying it in the next few weeks when the electricians have finished in the garage and the shed has been delivered/built.

Is there a reason why the Garage is set back a bit from the boundary of the land? Planning permission?

It looks great though. The one thing I hate about my house is the lack of garage or space to build one

It's so there's a bit of room to swing the car in. It's set in the same position as the old garage.

That could be an option, as I'm going to board the ceiling. Will discuss with the electrician later.

Another suggestion I've had is bulkhead lights - I'm guessing at least 4 on each side.

For a garage I would want lights on the walls and the ceilings to avoid working in a shadow as far as possible. Do you mind me asking how much the door was and what size it is?

Another option is to have the wall lights now and a strip light over the work bench, then fit LED down lights when I insulate and board the ceiling.

The door is 10' x 6'6, which is an off the shelf size and cost £1450 including the motor. 10' x 7' was roughly the same price, but would have pushed me over the 2.5m height for permitted development. Hormann have a matrix of sizes in their brochure, so I chose an off the shelf size and designed the garage around that.

Have a look at the lights I got, LED panel lights, 3000lumens (i think) - plenty of light. They fit or can be fitted flush to ceiling. Here is a pic of them up

I had them sourced via a friend from China, cost was reasonable but you can find similar from LED hut or maybe E36Guy can get them

Thanks, how many of the panels have you got in there? And are there any above the door when it is open?

I think Guy does have something similar - I need to email him back about them.

I have 4, 2 are under door when it's up, so square like coverage of garage. Each are 1200x300x8 in terms of dimensions from memory

Thanks, the electrician had to postpone today, so I'll discuss with him tomorrow, when he comes to wire in the fuse board and the connect the door.

The upshot of the electrician cancelling is that I was able to finish painting the walls.

Just sorting the cabling, hanging some pictures and painting the door to go!
Jen's aunt, who grew up in this house, came round at the weekend and was really impressed with what we'd done to the front room and said it looked like a show home.

As the electrician didn't turn up yesterday I was able to finish the third coat of paint on the wall, which saved having to paint around the fuse board etc. The electrician called round this morning to do a basic fit out, just power to the garage door and a couple of sockets, so I should be able to park my car in the garage tonight!

Lighting-wise I think I'm going to go with 3 strip lights away from the door for now, then when I board the ceiling switch to LED downlights.
