The throttle butterfly spindle snapped but luckily at 16:45 right at the end of the day. I had to get the AA to take me home.

Are you running a bias valve with yours? Mine will still have the standard 1.6 rears when they're fitted. A mate suggested gutting the standard bias valve so you get a 50/50 split front to rear.

Urrrgh, bloody old cars. I was supposed to be going to the MX5 National Meet tomorrow and be on the Moss Europe stand. No chance now. Stripped the old Throttle Body off and as suspected one broken throttle spindle.

Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr

The replacement arrived yesterday but as is often the way with used parts it's been stripped of pretty much everything.

I went to swap over the various bits and rounded off 4 bloody screws. I don't have the time to drill them out or find replacements before tomorrow. Rather than take the MK2 instead I'm going to soldier on with this and get as far as I can.

Sometimes I really hate my hobby.

Mines just got the standard bias valve, I'm running 276mm rear disks I've never had any issues with how the car brakes. There were no issues with brake forces on the mot test everything showed up fine.

Great thread Horney and I've enjoyed watching the videos, the car looks like a lot of fun!

Are you involved in any series with the car at the moment? I can see you've taken part in some sprints but is there a league table or anything like that? (Apologies if I've missed something!)

Not with this car, just the occasional Sprint/Hillclimb, AutoSolos and Tackdays. I have a 50% share in a Max5 race car myself and a friend will be racing next year and I also have a stake in MK2 Turbo Endurance racer we're taking to the Race of Remembrance in November. I think I have an addiction, lol.

Update time.

Managed to find the time (i.e took a day off work!) and headed down to Skuzzle Motorsport in Winchester to steal one of his lifts for the day and fit my WIlwoods.

Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr

As probably mentioned earlier in the thread I realised after I ordered these they wouldn't fit behind my beloved Compomotive MLs. For the time being the car is running on some Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2s I swiped off our Max5 racer.

I've ordered some of the same wheel but in Gold which I'm waiting to arrive.

Today there was an organised run out to a pub and for lunch and then to Goodwood via some nice roads which seemed like the perfect opportunity to bed the brakes in.

Next up Farnborough and District Motor Club's Sprint Royale on Sunday. Looking at the others in my class I've got my work cut out!

Loving your car mate! And that opposite lock video! biggrin

You cannot beat an MX5 on track for value and fun factor! I did the ring and Spa in my old turbo last year. I still miss that car on occasion! I will definitely return at some time! My turbo one was a MK2.

Good luck with all your ARDS stuff as well! Proper racing.... now that sounds like real fun. Was the ARDS expensive?

I have an unhealthy addiction to stickers and decided some Spec Miata inspired MAZDA stickers were in order.

I try to blot most of the expense of motorsport out of my mind for fear of driving myself insane. I think it was £350 ish for the test at Goodwood and the medical was £80 or there about through an online booking company as my Dr wanted £150!!!

Yesterday was race day! I took the Mazda to the Farnborough and District Motor Club Sprint Royale. Running in class 5 for road going cars over 2000cc (the supercharger makes it 1600cc x 1.6 = 2560cc for equalization) was going to be tough. In my class were 7 runners including a supercharged Mustang GT, an MG SV and an S14 200SX. My main target of the day was a Mini Cooper S JCW as we're both 1.6 Supercharged and similar power to weight as he has a bit more power than me.

Arrived and ready for scrutineering:

In the queue for the first practice run:

Another queue shot:

The Mustang retired with a broken gearbox and I managed to beat the mini and bagged 2nd in class and 25th overall out of 80+ entries. I even beat a Metro 6R4!!!!!!

Here's a vid of the 2 practice runs and 4 timed runs:

Such a great day and already looking forward to the first sprint of 2016.
