Ok, so who has the most exclusive job on PH? How many people in the world do you reckon are doing a similar job to yourself, right now? Not who would be capable with a bit of re-training, or how many have done it in the past.

Does anyone work in such a specialised field that they are in single figures?

Freelance horn player - not that exclusive I suppose, maybe a thousand in the country?

However, retraining to do what I do would take about 20 years or so - highly skilled work obviously, so not a career you could move sideways into! Certainly not just a niche of a niche of a niche like some in this thread! wink

I reckon only about half of them are actually doing anything, on the basis that I spend half the time working and half wasting time on PH.

I'm the only person who I've ever met or know of that does the sort of thing I do, the way we do it if that makes sense. I'm sure there are more, but it's rare.

I'm the head of Sales and Customer Service - an odd mix for a start for a firm of 'faceless' (or non face-to-face might be a better term) correspondence Accountants.

It’s very rare of an Accountancy Firm to work like we do, but it works.
It’s incredibly rare for an Accountancy Firm at actually ‘sell’ their services, most thing it’s a bit ‘crass’ I think.
And if they do it’s incredibly rare they market and sell their services the way we do.
And rare they do it on a national level, without actually having regional offices.

When I started there wasn’t a blueprint for it, no ‘how to sell a unique Accountancy services’ manual, I spend the first 6 months just running trial and error to work out how it could be done.

Works well though biggrin we’re enjoying huge growth and customer retention rates

Nothing truly unique about what I do, just the combination of factors that make it odd.

When I was in a circus everyone said they could juggle a bit. Now I'm a composer everybody seems to play the guitar.

PRS has 85,000 members, so I guess I'm not alone out there.

As soon as I figure out what it is I'm actually meant to be doing I will be able to answer this, that may be a while though.

Worldwide, another 6 people doing the same job I do. With another 6 who could step in, in an emergency.

We've just hired a new bod, who is very experienced with the product we support; we think it'll be 6 mnths or so until he's up to speed fully.

I used to be one of 2 people in the world that maintained the only 2 machine like it in existance.
I think only one works since the company decided to relocate quite recently hehe
Funnily enough, I was usually the only one maintaining them because the other person was my boss!
