With only two weeks to go, presumably the kit is already on its way there?

Not necessarilly. The teams apparently have two transport plans in place. One to Barhrain and one not.

LOL yes I appreciate that there will be two options. I wondered if anyone knew whether the kit had been shipped or whether they were still holding off from actually making a decision?

Seeing as there is a race in China first you would think that all the kit was headed there....

I can see the pilot of the 747 freighter with all the F1 cars sitting on the tarmac at Shanghai, opening a sealed envelope and reading the enclosed letter which says,

"Captain, fly us to........"

IIRC there are three sets of kit - stuff that goes by plane (cars mainly), and then two separate sets of other stuff that goes by sea. So the stuff that was in Australia goes to China, the stuff that was in Malaysia is en route to Bahrain, and so on.

That way if one set gets stuck somewhere it's less of a problem.

Damon Hill states it exactly as I see it. It's a complex situation and I don't for one minute believe it is 100% one sided, but the fact remains that the sport shouldn't be showing cocooned normality with all that's going on just outside its 'bedroom window'.

As was said before, it seems Bernie doesn't want to cancel, as then he has to pay, so, he waits for the regime to cancel. . . which they seem determined not to do.

In the meantime all the animals in Bernies "circus" are obeying the lion-tamers whip & going ahead with the show.

It is the type of mentality that has been responsible for wars commencing, & evil regimes continuing unchecked.

If you take any feelings of Motorsport enthusiasm out of your equation (although at that circuit anyhow, it is hardly a factor) this is nothing other than a scandalous money grabbing charade to try & convince the world of the "normality" of what has been ( & still is) going on there.

If it happens, it will be a shameful day for F1, even if everyone goes & comes back OK.

I watched this film last year. Its quite long, but worth a watch imo.

Until there is an end to the trouble, F1 shouldn't be going anywhere near the place.

I've got this mental picture of Slim Pickens in his cowboy hat in Dr. Strangelove..................

Damon Hill was interviewed on the Today programme this morning. He's obviously internally conflicted about the situation.

Good find. I'm increasing impressed by Al Jazeera.

I've always thought that Hill was a pretty ethical and intelligent chap. Frankly, I was disappointed that he was persuaded to give his support to this race. I have a hunch that Hill will not see out the season as a Sky TV pundit.

I actually reposted the OP's link on my Facebook, with the subtitle "a man who was already pretty high up in my estimations goes a little higher...."

For far too long most of the journalists who follow the F1 circus have been neutered in their opinions for fear of having their access restricted should they not tow the "party line". It's been said between the lines many times, but as far as I'm aware it's really only Motorsport magazine who have the balls to really write what they want about F1, perhaps because they no longer send correspondents there?

But for Hill, well I applaud him for at least coming out & talking about the situation. Will Webber mention it this year?

I'm not the type to get involved in political protests if I'm honest, but a country that can lock up its medical practitioners for treating the injured needs to be stood up against.

damon hill has earned even more respect from me for his comments - he publically says he has changed his mind and lists in a very articulate way the (very sensible) reasons why... it's not often that we see this from public figures.
