As the title, I never really know what's best to use. I have used old boxer shorts before, 100% cotton ones. I have used the cream mesh types, but hate the bits that they leave, and worried that they'll scratch. I have tried the fluffy pad types also, but didn't get on wee with them.

Are microfibre cloths any good?

Do you use the same material for applying the polish also?

Many thanks..

I usually apply polish via either G2220 or a rotary, but if doing it my hand a foam disc is the preferred choice.....not too much and really work it across the surface.

To remove by hand I like something with texture and try to avoid microfibres at this stage.

3M sponges (green, yellow then blue if required) by machine usually rotary, sometime DA

Mutton cloth or old microfibre to remove excess residue

Newer microfibres to finish

PS I'm not a detailer so this is just my preference.

Hi,

My advice would be to not use a rotary polisher, if you are inexperienced, experiment first, they can cause more issues than they resolve.

I just use a pad to apply the polish, and for wax, I use my hands, as they warm the wax up. Higher quality waxes work better like this imo.

If you are looking for a polishing cloth, then i'm currently using, the following, and have tried and tested many others:

Hopefully you are using the 2 Bucket technique, to clean the car, with a sheepskin mitt etc

The Costco pack was a brilliant buy. They are even better if they have been washed (no fabric conditioner) and drid on the radiator. Having so many I find I can use microfibres for some jobs I would normally use other clothes for and then bin them.

What does that do to them?

Fabric conditioner stop them absorbing moisture, same as bath towels etc.

Pistonheads.. domestic tips matter.

Tumble dryer gets too hot and shrinks the fibres IIRC

and if you dry them outside sparrows shcensoredt on them.

And I find that in the tumble drier they end up all fluffy. Obviously I chastised the Mrs but she knows nothing about car polishing.

Radiators only for me!
