I checked my oil,as i always do when she's had a wash, and again the oil level wasn't even measuring minimum on the dipstick, burning alot of oil.Does anyone have any suggestions as to why?She does have a small leak, but it seems like the amount she's losing is a bit excessive.

IIRC MINI state it's acceptable to use about 1 litre per 1000 miles.

Hi

Our old Supercharged S didnt use a drop of oil, however our newer Clubman S is using about a litre every 900 miles. (Allegedly this is within BMW tolerances and should be nothing to worry about!)

Effectively I am getting an oil change every 4500 miles or so......

Think that's on the R56 Mr Hyperblue, pretty sure Marcia's got an R53.

Doesn't sound right Marcia, I'd get it checked out wink

R53's can use oil too. Everyone seems to forget there not getting any younger. Depending on mileage could be worn piston rings. Also mine when on stock pistons (low mileage, well maintained but driven hard engine) used to use oil if driven hard. With the je's in it loves oil due to the pistons needing to warm up

how much are you having to top upand how often. As already said they do use a bit, I generally have to put 1 litre in, normally mid way through the 15,000 mile service intervals.

Any blue smoke? I wouldn't wory about it - just get the garage to confirm when it goes in. Well done for checking though, so many don't, but the oil pressure light would come on at a certain level.

Not sure of the exact amount i put in,but i would definately say it was a litre, maybe more. The last time i had to top it up,i would say about 4 months ago, when i had to put about the same amount in.Is this acceptable? As i only do about 1,000 miles a month!

No,blue smoke as far as i know.Yes,you are right about the oil pressure light.

It applies to all BMW and mini products.
