Here's my recently acquired 9-5 aero manual a few bumbs here and there but nothing to bad. Runs well, goes well and has 3 months MOT.

Looks nice.
But two words... "Sump Drop".
Has it been done ?, if not get it done ASAP before you start driving it.

Yup, the previous owner had it done less than 5000mile ago (have receipt ) thumbup
I'm going to put it in for an MOT, fresh oil and filters next month after I've made sure the breather hoses are the latest type.

Nice! MCY suits them. They need a few quid thrown at them in the handling dept though!

Picked this 9-5 2.3t Aero Edition up this week, formerly a Bell and Colvill Demo, then one owner with full B&C history for the 115k on its odo, bloody thing still smells brand new! with the exception of a duff SatNav unit all seems well, and it fair flies....

My first Saab was this 9000, was a 2.3FPT which was given a stage 2 remap. For what it was it went bloody well, even on a track!

Then a 9-3 2.0LPT, still went surprisingly well!

And the current one, 2.0 Aero HOT, really surprised me how quick and better to drive than a 'normal' 9-3 is.

Stage 5 tune now done by failed mot on emissions so needs the map looked at/adjusted.

No idea tbh!! I dont think it'll crack 500ft on this turbo mate but not far off, stage 4 (18t, 3" DP, IC but standard injectors) on another car had 472ft/lbs but low power @ 325bhp. The 19t guys in the states are getting mental torque! 532ft/lbs on one dyno!! 20T seems to flow around 10% more. Might give that a bash next year or look into a nice hybrid.

Will find out in October when the clutch & diff is sorted & run in smile

Apart from upgrading the turbo, and remapping the ECU, what else do you have to strengthen, Griffin Dai?
I have a 2006 9-5 Aero estate as my daily driver, but am interested.......as, in the words of my window sticker, "my other car is a TVR", and the Saab feels underpowered in comparison.

Clutch needs upgrading now and I'm fitting the quaife the same time, by the only engine mods here are Bigger IC (Chinese mitsi Evo IC off eBay), 3" decat downpipe, sports cat in the Midpipe, then a 3" resonator and straight pipes instead of back boxes but you only really need to upgrade the DP, rest is just noise (lots!!! Sounds evil!!) Bosh 550cc injectors, and a insignia VXR turbo (td04-18t) then the stage 5 map.

Internals are fine at this power level so just not on bits really smile

Tbh a JZW stage 1 tune is more than quick enough and should see 320bhp & 420ish FT/lbs, best bang per buck would be a 3+ tune (bigger IC & 3" DP plus stage 3+ remap) that should see 350-360bhp & 450-460ft/lbs. But you'll be looking at a clutch upgrade here.

Clutch is already 130,000 miles old and distinctly ropey in second gear, so the upgrade would be sensible anyway.
I will investigate your suggestions further, so thanks for your detailed response. I will print it and save it. I may come back to you for the where and who.

I got mullahed by several 500 bhp Saabs from Scotland at an airfield track day in my TVR a couple of years ago, so know it's possible. I added another 100bhp to the TVR shortly after, so I now have 285 bhp per tonne, which is fine for the twisty tracks like Cadwell that I like the best. Didn't stop me getting caught by a 1050cc Hillman Imp last time out - there's no substitute for really good driving skill!!

Ah sorry mate, I thought you meant on the 2.8 9-3.

Not too sure about the 9-5 tuning as my last one was kept standard. If you take a look on Maptuns site there's a tuning guide there to give you a better idea on what's possible & rough prices. But I think around 320bhp is as far as you can go on the 9-5 before needing forged Pistons or a b234 bottom end. Best place to ask is UKSaabs mate, lots of modded 9-5's there smile

Yeah there's a fair few high powered Saabs up north!

Forgot to upload the new exhaust clip smile

Emissions map loaded here but it's now off, I loaded a stage 5 rev2 map but it's a little mad and the clutch can't hold it.....pretty bonkers tbf so should go well with the new paddle clutch & Quaife smile

http://youtu.be/hEE017N02Js

Stage 5 rev3 map loaded here so a little easier on the clutch, hardly any clutch slip on this unless I'm really pushing it. Hunting idles normal on a re-flash as the ECU needs around 100 miles to adapt to the new tune

http://youtu.be/gSqpr_sjtQ4

And here's the BSR Optiflow kit fitted (standard exhaust though) no difference in performance with this but nice to have fitted smile

That's identical to mine. Agreed on the factory GM sat nav, I fitted one of these Sony units with the TomTom module. Great idea as you can take the module out and update on your PC as per a separate nav.
