I'm getting fed up waiting now.

Ordered on 19th September. Two handsets, one 30 pin adapter and one more usb lead. My ETA is 19th -25th October! Yet a friend who ordered one on 21st Sept got his today. What gives?

I ordered mine with O2 on the 25th Sept and got it on the 3rd Oct which i wasn't expecting. I am a gold customer with O2 so not sure if my order was given priority.

To be fair (iPhone 4 antenna aside) you generally know what you're going to get with an iPhone. More of the same with X small differences which Apple cover quite thoroughly in their marketing.
Apple have a reasonably good track record for quality control but I suppose I just don't trust any company that much and prefer to start with a clean slate when I'm buying something.

I did recently notice I have a few Samsung products in my house but each one was bought on merit rather than brand.

As far as I'm concerned they're all quite capable of producing a lemon. I'm more than happy for you to find this out on my behalf though biggrin

I had a better idea of what to expect "blindly" ordering a iPhone 5 than I did ordering the Nexus One (from the US!) or Nexus S, both a few months after their release.
But any major issues would be well known by then and you have professional and user reviews to go on. Before a product is released you only really have marketing to go on.

One thing I always find amusing is that people pay £500+ for a gorgeous phone, then stick a 5p screen protector on it...

or a rubbish case... people are always amazed i dont have a case or screen protector..

apple spent millions designing it, with the best designers money can buy.. id rather leave it as they intended.

I think this will be your issue if apple hold items for a complete shipment. The 30pin adapters still haven't been released.

My nearest apple store was expecting them at the begining of last week, they were not in the shipment and no notice has been given on a new delivery. All they have been told now is that apple will release them "before the end of October" and that is when they can expect thier stock. All the other accesories are released and in store already, apart from the two adaptors (the single plug one and the one with the extention cable)

(Even the cheap adapters on ebay are all "Pre-order - delivery during October/november", so I'm guessing even they haven't got the official ones to copy yet wink )

Stupid question warning; have now decided I do want one and wish to purchase outright. Am I missing somewhere obvious to order/buy sim-free?

Apple have closed their "reserve in store" thingy and I can't go taking days off to stand outside the Apple shop at 9am on teh off chance they've had a delivery frown

Unless you are absolutely desperate to have one, its probably worth leaving it until the new year.

Hopefully, by that time, the rush will be over, and there could be a possible software update?
I would say as a 4S user that unless you're desperate to have one leave until the next model as there is really nothing in it aside from emptying your wallet!

Chap I work with is very pro apple and always has to have the latest iPhone - however I was surprised to hear him say last week "it's okay, but to be honest it's not really any different from my 4S".

This surprised me, and has put me off bothering to upgrade myself. For now. I know initial sales and preorders have exceeded all expectations, however I can't help but think they will ease of substantially.

Just got mine today! Yey! 64GB (or not, mine says 57.something) in black. Also on Orange.

Didn't go for the 4s (just had a 4).

Compared with the 4......Much faster, video playing (just had a look at BBC iPlayer F1 Japanese GP) is much better and sounds much better too and the bigger screen area makes a nice difference..

Not really played with it much as I have just sinc'd it.

But very pleased so far.

BTW....Anyone found a decent cover yet? My last one....I smashed the screen :-(

What do you mostly use it for? Internet browsing on 3G/LTE or phone calls?

This is my usage from today;

This is mostly Internet browsing on wifi, about 15mins of calls and some texts.

So a 64gb iPhone only has 57gb of storage?

My 32gb 4 still has close to 30gb of storage. Why would a 64gb lose so much?

The OS is about 2GB, and 64 GB is in reality just under 60.

So, 57 and change left over.

Well I've had mine since Friday, and it has shown to be a good improvement from my aging 4.

Battery life is no better or worse than the 4 IMO. Today, off charge at 5am and it now has 1% left, 6.5hrs usage and 18hours standby time.

Everything else is much better than the 4 - all the apps seem to be better too... :-)
