Well, it only seems like we picked up our iPhone 4's but the iPhone 5 is fast coming this summer. Anyone else getting one when it comes out? I really hope they can make changes to the battery and keep it working longer... http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/iPhon...

While I'd be surprised if they released the new phone so soon after the 4S, as my 4 contract runs out in July, I'd be delighted if a new phone was announced in June.

I can upgrade after the 13th May, so I'd be interested if it comes in June.

Have to admit I'm really tempted by an iPhone now. As much as I completely object to the cost, it's more the "pocket computer, any time anywhere" that they seem to do so much better than everything else.

Not a surprise - 4S was stop gap measure until iPad 3 was done and dusted, and released. Now the iPhone 5 can get more development time allocated. With the new handsets from everyone associated with Android and Windows 7/8, now's the time to consolidate Apple's position in the marketplace. Maybe something to extract more enterprise users from RIM's faltering grasp?

I don't see RIM being in business as they currently are in 12-18 months. Either gone altogether or bought out by another manufacturer, although I suspect the latter would've already have been in progress, and noises made in some sectors of the press. That there's none that I'm aware of, maybe RIM doesn't have technology/patents that are desirable, and if the other manufacturers research indicates only a core sector are remaining loyal to RIM, then it's not enough business worth making a beeline for. I really do think RIM are in a complete no-man's land currently, and I don't see anywhere for them to turn, to become a major player again (were they ever?).

RIM were THE player in the corporate email space. Absolutely huge and no-one could touch them. To a certain extent, no-one currently can from a management of devices and locking down via BES. However, people within the company and the executives more importantly all want iPhones and iPads and as such RIM is dead.... Steve

Steve There are more and more MDM platforms coming along that seem to involve just paying £3 a device a month (or thereabouts) and getting a lot of the functionality of BES without being limited to Blackberry devices. Personally I have mixed views. I have a Blackberry, we issue Blackberry's at work and tbh nobody actually complains about them. The reality in our case is that we're not going to spend £400 on a phone for someone who just needs email functionality, and Blackberry are cheap and good at this. Where we have a challenge is when people essentially want a "pocket computer". I'm in the process of looking at iPads and MDM as more and more people are wanting to BYOD and nobody is turning up at my desk with a privately purchased Blackberry.

I bloody hope the OP is right; I got my iPhone 4 on release day on a 2 yr contract and whilst its still looking almost like new, I am getting rather sick of looking at it

The 4S was just the usual tweak, somewhat delayed in its launch, so the new one should be having its shake down ready to start mass production soonest!!

I'll be getting one straight away as my current one's home button is on its last legs! That's my excuse anyway; and I'm sticking to it!
