Well, as long as they don't change Coppice, Charlies, Park, Chris, Gooseneck, Mansfield, the Mountain or Hall, then fine wink So a Hairpin to Barn extension sounds ok.

They could improve the facilities and track entry/exit without spoiling the track itself.

Widening the straights would be no bad thing, however I suspect they will have to widen the whole thing to support GT racing - Merc SLSs and Lambos are pretty wide!

The subtle joys of Hall, Coppice and the Gooseneck will be lost if they are any wider, I fear. I can imagine Coppice/Charlies turning into Surtees/McLaren/Clearways at Brands Indy if they widen it - which aren't bad, but aren't a patch on Cadwell's current offering.

Does anyone know to whom representations should be made to express a view on this?

A planning application has appeared on the councils website for a footbridge over the track just before the left hander before The Mountain.

http://publicaccess.e-lindsey.gov.uk/online-applic...

Does it look long enough for the track underneath to be widened in the future?

Glad to see that the bridge will not constrain traffic. (see comment from the Highways department)

I'd not read that so thanks for pointing it out.

So MSV pay a lot of money to get planning permission for a bridge on land that they own that will have no impact on anyone.

But someone at Lincolnshire CC has the time to read this PP and is stupid enough to comment on it.

Just how stupid do you need to be to say:

"It is considered by the Highway Authority that the proposed development will not be detrimental to highway safety or traffic capacity."

I can see MSV, being fed up with the idiots at Brands, giving up on Cadwell if the local council are just as stupid/unhelpful.

Gaining planning permission is a requirement and this looks like it will be a good benefit to the circuit. The Council are simply doing their job, no-one is being "stupid / unhelpful", and they will hopefully grant permission ASAP.. Lincolnshire CC will have been consulted and have a duty to respond, even if it's the standard "we're not really interested" reply.

planning permission rules are just plain stupid in the uk, My old chap used to run a large open air museum, and the planning hoops they had to jump through were ridiculous.

i.e. we want to move this historic building and rebuild it brick by brick on the site..

ohhh well it will need to satisfy insulation requirements ??? erm how and why?

also planing the gardens required approval for the plants and bushes !!!

Noooo! The best place to watch from at Cadwell is the banking on the far side of the start/finish straight because you can see from the exit of Mansfield to Hall bends, then from Barn to the first corner (name escapes me).

Putting a big bridge over the track would spoil the view. What's wrong with the current use of gates? It'd have to be a huge bridge to span that distance. Don't do it!

Regarding knocking down the old house, i don't think they can. I was talking to a marshal at our race meeting last month and apparently it's listed. They can't use it because it's condemned, but can't knock it down either. It just has to fall apart itself.

The curious thing is that everybody loathes planners until - God forbid- there is the slightest hint of a suggestion of something happening in their area they don't like . Then out they all come insisting on absolute rigid adherence to every sub clause of planning guidance. Planning rules can be irritating but for an example of what happens when you don't have decent planning control try driving through the outskirts of many big cities in France or USA.

No, the Manor House is in the trees to the right of race control if you look up the hill.

Agree re the view, but it will allow meetings to run with less break between races, as there will be no need to allow crossing time, it could also allow terracing of the bank around the bottom of the Mountain in future.

I was there last Saturday for some bike racing and the gates were not allowed to be opened. A couple of people opened them themselves, then an announcement went out and several people were stranded over there for the rest of the day.

I guess you can walk around if you really need to, would be quite a hike though!

That really does define the word Gash. Laughable that they painted it green, I guess to make it "blend in", Jesus wept.

I can see the need for a bridge as the Cadwell Park website says they have a camp site opposite the pit lane for the super bike meeting.

I know the super bike meeting is the biggest event at Cadwell but it not the only event. Their calendar is full, a lot of track days and private events.
I don't know about private events but at track days 99% of people who are not driving watch from the cafe or nearby.

As for the old gate arrangement - I think they are getting short on marshals and as someone has said if there are no marshals then some idiots just open the gate.

But I'm sure they could have done it better.

Looking on the bright side - they do appear to have made the bridge long enough for the track to be widened.

Jeez, words fail me. Only been to Cadwell a few times but I always liked the place for how nice it all looked and how good a view that part of the track had. Well... not so much now, I guess. I know it'll be useful and all that, but a little more aesthetic consideration might have been nice! Even just making the ends look a bit less like a box balanced on a bit of concrete would've made it look less bad, even if it couldn't have been placed anywhere better.

It appears I might be in the minority in thinking it was about time they did this, I don't think it looks too bad either the cargo container look is obviously just to stop people spectating from it.

Mostly only go there for TDs now but when I used to spectate events there the access from one side to the other was annoying.

It's looks tidier than the bridge at Oulton anyway.
