cool

Discovered today that the VXR8 centre arm rest slides forward to cover the cup-holders if you want to hide anything that you put in there. Hadn't perviously noticed this in several months of ownership... scratchchin ... duh! loser

read Read the handbook. There's always a feature for any car that you won't know about.

Next you'll be telling me that you never knew there's a button behind the central rear headrest that drops the centre section of the rear seat completely, or you never knew about the 'stealth mode' night time dash display...

The big question is, on the VXR8 what does pressing the little button just below the dials do? I know it's to do with the alarm/immobiliser as it flashes when I lock the car, but does pressing the button disable the sensors internally or something? I sat in my car the other day and locked it but couldn't get the alarm to trigger, is that because I'd pushed the button and switched them off previously?

Yes I will (to both!) smile

What is the "stealth mode" night display? type

If you press both of the instrument panel dimmer buttons together when the lights are on, everything bar the speedo goes dark and switches off.

Hi Stef, that button is some sort of an aftermarket switch for an alarm or sth.
I have never worked out what it did, although managed to trail the wire and it goes into a box (GM part) behind the lower right hand side dashboard bit below the light switch.

LOL

OK another two for you to try at lunchtime. (we really should have a sticky!)

1. Turn the ignition key so that that the starter engages. Then let go: The Engine will crank itself until it starts.
2. Press the left thumbwheel on the steering wheel whilst you turn the key to position two. It'll bring up a whole list of goodies to gawp at on your Info display in the centre of your clocks.

(I can see a mad rush to Office car parks now )

- oh and your interior lights only come on when its dark

What I'd really like to find is some hidden setting to switch on heated mirrors, because it's a real PITA without them!!

Anyone looked in to whether another GM mirror fits our housing with a heating element, shouldn't be too hard to wire in a relay to the heated rear view mirror......................

Also I noticed in the fusebox a fuse for auto wipers, but I'm guessing none of the loom exists for the sensor etc.

Heated mirrors - easy, they make them for Commodores (have a couple on the way) and err...what heated seats?

Having said that - it's on my to-do list

Would you mind expanding on the heated mirrors a bit Gary? It's a major bug bear for me as I seem to be in an area on the South Coast that is prone to vehicle misting!!

I'd be interested in the heated mirrors too. It's not the 1980's after all (despite what the lack of RDS on the head unit might suggest). smash

Gary - I actually found the "self cranking" feature at the weekend as my thumb slipped off of the key just as I was turning it. smile

Will need to try the extra info trick too now. laugh

I understand the Senator also has heated mirrors, which makes me wonder how easy it might be to retro-fit them to the R8.

Ta, will whip it off later and have a look!

On the subject of hidden features, not the VXR8 but on my old Chrysler 300C SRT8, if you were doing about 30 MPH (no more) and knocked the auto box in to neutral and then turned the ignition key to the starter position and held it there until it chimed it would completely disable all ABS, traction, stability etc and put it in to proper hooligan mode!! It would reset when you turned the ignition off and on again. Also had a 0-60 timer hidden in the menus too, that was fun!
