Last week, the Labour candidate appeared to brush away tears at the launch of his election broadcast, later claiming that the sight of so many “ordinary Londoners” urging him to win in the film had been overwhelming.
However, in the days that followed, it transpired that Mr Livingstone had seen the broadcast before, and that the participants in the film were hand-picked by an advertising agency and paid expenses.

I think he knows where his votes are coming from and doesn't care about the rest, the muslim vote could well see him elected.
Much though I detest the hypocritical scum bag I have some sympathy with his point regarding Bin Laden, if another country sent forces into America to assasinate a criminal harboured by the Americans there would be hell to pay, America doing the same in Pakistan is excused as justice (albeit American justice). It comes down to the terrorist/freedom fighter argument, but personally I think that we need to maintain the moral high ground and abide strictly by the spirit as well as the letter of the rules - no torture, no assasination, no support for corrupt regimes etc.

The OP’s thread title reads like it came straight from the Sun’s school of headline writing.

“I was appalled to see Osama bin Laden in his pyjamas shot dead in front of his kid," Mr Livingstone said. "The best way to demonstrate the values of a western democracy is you put Osama bin Laden on trial, you challenge what he says. My parents’ generation gave the best years of their lives to establish these values. We should never erode them.”
Not an unreasonable opinion if you ask me. Thisback in March annoyed me:

Here is the full version of a story which appears in the print edition of today's Daily Telegraph:
Ken Livingstone has promised to turn London into a “beacon” for the words of the Prophet Mohammed in a sermon at one of the capital’s most controversial mosques.
Mr Livingstone, Labour’s candidate for mayor of London, pledged to “educate the mass of Londoners” in Islam, saying: “That will help to cement our city as a beacon that demonstrates the meaning of the words of the Prophet.” Mr Livingstone described Mohammed’s words in his last sermon as “an agenda for all humanity.”
He praised the Prophet’s last sermon, telling his audience: “I want to spend the next four years making sure that every non-Muslim in London knows and understands [its] words and message.” He also promised to “make your life a bit easier financially.”
Can you imagine someone saying this about any other religion?Ken Livingstone has promised to turn London into a “beacon” for the words of the Prophet Mohammed in a sermon at one of the capital’s most controversial mosques.

Does anyone else find it worrying that there is enough Muslim votes out there to be won by talking of 'support' for Bin Laden, and that it could make a difference?
Ahhh but hang on, whoa down there. There is no way this could work.Muslims have nothing to do with Al Quaeda, they do not support extremists. Muslims are good people, Islam is the religon of peace.
Come on guys, it's true, no peaceful, good guy, wonderfull muslim would vote to support a guy just because he said something nice about the evil Bin Laden.
Tis true isn't it? Muslims are good guys.......aren't they?
Without wishing to be portrayed as a pinko leftist tt (which I'm not, by the way - well, I'm not a pinko leftist anyway ...) I think it is ridiculous to suppose that just because someone is a Muslim they will (a) support bin laden and (b) be swayed by the fairly transparent and insulting attempts of red ken to pander to the Muslim vote

No-one has said that at all. However, politicians do not say things for no reason whatsoever, more so if there is no gain to be made. Everything politicians say has been thought about, formed, recormed, and moulded behind the acenes. By publicly voicing 'support' for Bin Laden, (not support per say, more that he shouldn't have been shot), it does suggest that he said it for a reason. What do you think that is? My simple concern is that there is enough support for this issue in segments of the population that it deemed worthy to speak about.
I think if you read the earlier posts posters are suggesting exactly that, which is the sort of nonsense you'd expect in the daily mail
I hate livingstone and galloway and all their ilk but by stating that this sort of bullst appeals to all Muslims plays into these rogues hands and allows them to continue with their divisive rhetoric. It also serves to radicalise disaffected youth - if they can' t get jobs and everyone thinks they're a terrorist, what have they got to lose by going down this route?
I am sat in Bahrain where the minority look up to western democracy as an ideal and aspire to that. Of course the 5th fleet is here and it is of strategic significance if things kick off with Iran so the US and its allies are happy to ignore the pro-democracy rallies here and keep the friendly rulers in place, but that's another discussion.
