So I had an email for my GREAT aunt. I quote:

Can I ask your advice about my little red CityRover, which is doing pretty well at 7½ years old.

But the immobiliser fob attached to one of the keys has broken. First it failed to work, so Bob put new batteries in, then it very soon failed again, so he took it apart but couldn't find any fault. When he looked it up on the web it seems that a new one would cost over £60. We have the learn fob with lead. But have no clear instructions as to how to activate the new fob. I imagine this must have happened to other people, and I wonder what they have done.

If the other key fails I could get stuck somewhere, as there's no way of starting the engine without pressing the immobiliser button..

We did get stuck with the one that failed, Katie and John were in the back. Fortunately we were only in Banbury, so we all caught the bus home, picked up the other key and went back to retrieve the car.

If you have any advice to offer, you'll probably have to speak to Bob as all this technological stuff is beyond me. But I do like driving.

See you soon!

Love from Aunty Sue x x

It doesn't matter what the car, it's how you drive, not what you drive.

It's in the family to get 'Screwed' by rover dealers. When her father (my Granddad) retired in 1976, he traded his Wolsley 3 Litre in for what he was told by the BLMC dealer was the modern version of it. An allagro Vandom Plas.

That's a cracker! Car dealers eh ... nothing new there > rofl

A close family friend has a City Rover much to the chagrin of her son... Most uncool apparently ... smile Had it about seven years and has provided good cheap, reliable transport during that time. Previously she had a Corsa diesel. Now THAT'S definitely uncool. Driven the CR a few times. It's strictly a 'does what it says on the tin' vehicle. Lift the bonnet and there's four big letters across the engine cover:~ TATA ~ the folks that have revived the fortunes of JLR where the folks at both BMW who sold it to Ford for 1.8 Billion who also failed to do so whilst under their stewardship.

I have seen the TATA logo on some F1 cars this season. Good for them!

Auntie Sue sounds lovely!
Do you want me to start a thread on the MG-Rover forum on her behalf?
Good luck either way

Received this reply earlier today:

City Rover Plips

PROCEDURE FOR LEARNING ADDITIONAL REMOTES / UNLEARNING LOST REMOTES

Every remote can be learnt or unlearnt by the use of hopped coded plug.
Before use every remote must be learnt.

1) Open the door with mechanical key, if required; plug the Hopped Coded
Plug into 6 pole connector on Control Unit.

2) Press UNLOCK button twice, to disarm the vehicle.

3) Press LEARN button. The system will erase all the pre-learnt remotes.
The LED starts blinking 0.5 Sec ON, 0.5 Sec OFF.
(If no remotes are available for learning, press UNLOCK to terminate the
session and whenever remotes are available, start from step no.1)

4) Press the LEARN button again. The Cluster LED remains ON for 4 Sec
and starts blinking at faster rate.

5) Press any button thrice, on the remote that has to be learnt.

6) In responce, Cluster LED turns ON for 4 Sec and starts blinking at
slower rate, (0.5 Sec ON, 0.5 Sec OFF) to indicate that the remote has
been learnt successfully.

7) Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 for learning additional new remotes (Max 5
nos.) or press UNLOCK to terminate the LEARN session.

ENSURE LOST REMOTES ARE UNLEARNT IMMEDIATELY.

I'll ask for first refusal. Is that a good compromise. If I get it, I promise I'll take it to the ring.
