Are the characters call signs supposed to reflect their personalities?
Iceman; He's cold, and calculating... like ice... man.
Maverick; He's a rogue, a little bit edgy, a lone wolf dissenting against 'The Man'.
Goose; He gooses around, a lot!
etc, etc
then there's Jester, who is anything but funny.

What's your problem? It's a genuine question, are their callsigns a result of their personalities or was the Director simply spoon feeding the audience?http://www.f-16.net/callsigns.html
This website gives reasons for the callsigns. Likelihood is that the Top Gun pilots wouldn't have got the names they did in real life (except for Jester since he is so humourless). Some of the stories are quite interesting...
