I've just looked at their membership offers - is there much benefit (or is it needed) to do the family thing. My OH will quite happily come along to events but that's just following me and the promise of a glass of something fizzy... Is that still possible of only I'm a member?

Ok just so my point isn’t misunderstood, I have bullet pointed the challenge I see.

Member age – Lets not get ageist. I don’t have anything against older generations, but a club like this has to consider what the younger generations want from their membership. I guarantee it is different from what other generations want and the membership stats will confirm that. Does AMOC have anyone under 35 on the committee, to help advise them?

Elitism – A maxim I strongly believe in is “perception is reality”. Unfortunately AMOC can be perceived by some, as an organisation that embraces elitism. Now an Aston Martin Owners Club of any guise is going to have a degree of elitism, as they are cars that few would choose or be able to afford, but AMOC needs to work hard from a PR sense to ensure it’s not perceived as snobby or a public schoolboy “Tim nice but dim” clique.

Notice a difference anyone?

My point is, if AMOC doesn’t change/adjust it’s image to attract the younger generations/Gaydon era owners, then it will suffer the same consequence as many golf clubs in the UK, where they struggle to attract new members due to their years of shortsightedness of what future members will want and their commitment to tradition over evolution.
Just to be fair, the video of the UK event was not an official club video. I shot it on my little Nikon Coolpix for a giggle.

I would like to say a few things about the AMOC. Most important ito consider is that you get out if it what you put into it. I'd like to think that over 16 years of membership, I've made and continue to make my contribution. But that's nothing to the fun I have had from being a member. I've met literally 100's of other members and enjoyed their company. Also gave been able to join in on some brilliant events home and overseas.

I'm not an active member of my local group (I didn't quite click with them) although I have been adopted by an overseas section which is very cool and a real honour.

Just remember that without the AMOC, the marque may never have survived.

And for the record, state educated, Northern and a very proud Cygnet owner.

Good Post, you seem to get it.

Seeing Aston Martins Racing at Le Mans and being used in hairy car chases in Bond films is what attracts me to the brand.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfYC_CBNtiM&fe...

The video shot by Tim Cottingham of the AMOC event at a stately home showing immaculate cars carefully arranged on manicured lawns with chamber music playing is definitely what repels me, paying my money to join the AMOC to sponsor such an event for others is out of the question.

I honestly think some of you on here and on the AMOC Forum have no idea how snooty you come across to people like me who live in other parts of the world.

Until the AMOC gets with the times and makes some much needed adjustments they wont be getting my financial support.

I just want to add I respect Tim Cottingham and the things he does on behalf of the AM Heritage Trust, and my reference to his video was not meant as a slight toward him.

I know, i find it real hard at times coping with being so superior.

The mix of adenoids and concours cars as well as Bond and motor racing is part of the Aston Martin heritage and DNA. You can't just complain that the club you want to join doesn't reflect only the values you want it to have.

My neighbour is in the Morgan owners club and I' met them once, they drink real ale and discuss timing chains.. It's not for me although I was mildly interested until I understood what a grease nipple really was smile
