The dashpots will come up shiney if you polish them using a buffing wheel.  I normally have a tray like those bottom two pictures once I've put everything back together!  Are you putting in new floats whist they're apart? SU themselves I think are a bit cheaper than the usual MG suppliers. http://www.sucarb.co.uk/ExplodedImageCoordinates.a...

hi tony, excellent reply ref' spare bits! luckily all inards are in tip-top condition so only need a good external clean. try not to have things too shiney as have a slight aversion to overly gleaming engine bays, ala chrome every part in sight  that's a good note ref' burlens fuels. have been using them for years and they're nearly always the best priced. it's shocking the price difference between burlen fuels and other suppliers for some new/replacement carbs; burlen can be 25% better priced  they also have the spitfire carb' butterflies on show in their reception area in salisbury; they're as big as small dustbin lids...!

Also, the fuel pumps are cheaper direct from SU rather than other suppliers.

That SU looks in pretty tidy condition - some time spent with carb cleaner and a toothbrush would get it looking very respectable. Not sure I would want to dunk it in Cola to be honest.

But, I prefer 'nicely used' clean carbs with a little patina about them. Thanks MR2Mike, yes the carbs are in good condition; just need a thorough clean. Coca-cola is fine to use externally [not internally], provided it's washed off with something like WD40. In fact WD40 and wire wool on metal parts can produce very good results. Carbs coming on nicely. Will be ready next w/e. BTW - if any of you have dirty/old painted inlet manifolds use PORStrip, rinse thoroughly in hot water, then soak in FastEtch for an hour or so. This gives very good results.
