good afternoon all, Mods.please feel free to move to a correct section, i could see a deciated subforum, and seeing as its a project, i chose here!
just bought myself a jetski. an early yamaha superjet!
went to deliver a bouncy castle yesterday, and spotted it sat in the corner with grass growing all over it
managed to come to a deal, and went and collected it earlier!
once i got it back i took the engine compartment cover off and saw that the engine compartment itself was half full of water
after a good soak in some TFR, i gave it a good hot jetwash off, and wetvaced the water out of the hull, as i couldnt find a bung
wheeled it inside, and set to work
so far ive taken the carb off and cleaned it up due to it being covered in jellied fuel and mould.
removed the sparkplugs that were rusted into the head, but after some work and lots of WD they came free
upon inspection of the bores, the tops of the pistons were rusty, so threw some 2 stroke oil in and let it soak for a while.
lifted her off the trailer, and sat her on a couple of tyres, hooked it up to out battery charger/starter and see if it would swing, signs of life but obviously siezed
tipped it on its side, and worked the shaft, trying to get it to free, and after some serious effort, it began to move!
worked it round and round, then tipped it back up, and had another go and swinging it over on the starter, to no avail!
have filled the pots with oil again, and will leave it for a day or so and see if that can work its magic...fingers crossed!
not the end of the world though, its only a 2cylinder 2 stroke engine on carb, with pretty good access!
the snipe trailer is also in very good condtion and will probably just need the bearings looked at and a couple of tyres for peace of mind.
also, after a bit of investigation, have found out its a 700cc, and is fitted with a solas sports impeller.
going to be great once its running, ive been around boats/jetskis for a large chunk of my life, so will be brilliant to get back into it, will get some pics up asap!

when i was younger my parents had seadoo and yamaha ski's aswell as a boat, all at the same time, and we had caravans over your end!
spent a lot of time on the water in ynyslas
always promised myself to another one, and the lad in the bottom pic, he was my best mate at the time, and has spent a lot of time on the water with me! we always talked about super/turbo charging a ski, and in the garage we have a tidy little turbo from a tdci
we'll just get her running and go from there i guess,
as for the advert, it wasnt intended, ill edit it now
