UK ISP's must block The Pirate Bay

It is the poster boy.
Must be this. There is no actual point to doing only the one website seeing as there are hundreds of others.Trying to control what people see on the internet is pointless. There are people out there far smarter than those trying to control it who will (im sure very easily) just bypass it.

Does it destroy jobs?
It's not The Pirate Bay destroying jobs; it's YouTube, Soundcloud, iTunes, and other such services which make it possible for a kid in his bedroom to bypass "big media" and get their stuff direct to the public. It's taken six months to arrange a block for the Pirate Bay, but it would take about six minutes to set up a mirror at another IP address.Mr_B said:
Maybe the people trying to sell their products could just be missing out to someone supplying it stolen for free ?
Well, the only info I have seen on the issue is the TED talk about copyright maths. It says that while DVD rentals are down, online subscription, and cable subscription is up, so I am wondering if there are any facts to back up that statement. TheHeretic said:
ETA, how many millions are being flung at this non-problem. Have a look for the TED talk 'The 8-million dollar iPod'.

Yup, that's the one. I have no idea if his figures are right, etc, but it does seem to be storm in a teacup type stuff, especially with the potential amount of money spent to enforce these things.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
