Me! I'll welcome any offers of passenger rides as I'm not sure they'll let my pickup on track. Tim, what time do you want me down there?

I only popped in on the off chance and was greeted with the sight of 4 lovely Tuscan racers belting round the track. What a beautiful nostalgic sight it was. Well done fellas

Hi guys, I popped down to Brands today to help Tim with his datalogger and after having a few problems with a duff card, I managed to get it all dialled in, and then recorded some decent coast down data. Once this was all put into the analysis software and the ambient conditions entered (measured at the track), the power figure at the wheels was calculated. The 98th percentile figure takes out the small increase in power seen during gearchanges due to the additional flywheel energy, along with any spurious bits of data. Tim reports that he made 322 at the wheels on the dyno recently, and the software has recorded 323; so its spot on. The weight came in at 1015kg with him in it, making his power to weight at the wheels 318bhp/tonne. I have the data on file now, so any future runs can be checked for power by simply loading his car data file. So by the looks of it he's just about within the class B limits.

Difficult to get proper coast down as BHI because of the gradients and short straights, but since that where I hope to be with mine it looks like we should be in for some close racing when mines out! DCs should be strong to as his weight is well down on Tims!

Just noticed that your thoeretical best was 54.12 Tim. My Qually in 2011 was 52.17 KVW did a 53.57 in 2010!!! (With 250bhp IIRC ) Either something fishy's going on or you need some more testing Tim

Haha pipe down Andy! The coast down is ok as the dl1 does compensate for minor inclines, and as we only needed a couple of seconds for the coast down, we were able to pick a pretty well flat section of track. Regarding the lap time, Tim was instructed to just go out and do one lap and floor it on the straight sections to measure power. This accounts for the lap time. If you notice, this run contained only one lap so don't worry, this can be considered an accurate test :-)

Hmmm. We had to do 2 coast downs I seem to remember. 1 100=80 and one 50-30. Still, with that kind of basis I reckon everyone will be in. I reckon I can get my PTW down to 280/tonne with some nice "settings" on the car. I wonder why the ptw had to be raised to 325 then? ...and how do you tell the dl1 the coast down is on an incline. I've not seen that setting. I'm good though. I expected Tims to be at the top of the 325 limit, and 322 is at the top. It will loosen up though and gain 20 or so, my old one did and so will my new one. Don't see why that should be any different. Shou;d be fun anyway

sorry andy missed your post, i'm not the quickest typist, Andy just for the record i have offered to have my data scrutinised at every race and be the guinea pig this season to help with 2013, i will be buying three data cards for data collection throught the season, just to remind you that keith posted a 51 and got best lap at brands last year with 320 at the fly so i don't think you have to worry about me, i couldn't better that today with more power. driver ability still is the bigger factor here!!

Chill dude, only messing. I'll have my DL1 on too, so when I'm out we can both see whats what. Mine may have less juice, but is MUCH lighter, so we should have some real fun I reckon!

Great to hear that you had a good day Tim, and judging from the figures, your cars looks to be very healthy indeed Not had mine on a rolling road but from my calcs I reckon I have about 316bhp / tonne at the rear wheels so should be fairly closely matched in terms of performance. Looking forward to following you and Andy around to see how its all done. My best lap around Brands in the Taz was 56 secs so its bit scary to think I've got to knock at least 4 seconds off that to be in the mix

A worthwhile day out at BH yesterday for me too Great to get out in a Tuscan Challenge Racer again but now with another 100 bhp and 70 ft lbs under my right foot Very greasy on track early on as it had been drizzling (as one who shall remain nameless will testify ) so I bided my time letting others put down some rubber before I ventured out – it was worth the wait though! Awesome power with snappy delivery which demands respect but I managed to get to grips with it and matched my record “B” time last year after not too long on slicks of dubious age and provenance. Some issues with brakes (sorted I think) and the gearbox which was stuck in 3rd (syncro?) finally got me back into the garage with a view to swapping the box for the spare I was always advised to carry – should’ve remembered the ATF though! Those thoughts soon disappeared as once the wheels were off and the car was on the jacks, a crack in the lower offside wishbone was noticed which expanded when put under stress. A known weak point apparently and some evidence of welding in the past to either strengthen or repair it may have contributed? That cut short my day but I'd still managed plenty of quality time in the car though. Good to see some familiar faces again too! “Dynorod” Deano Cook (who doesn’t post on here) enjoyed himself too although he had some electrical gremlins at the end of the day. A word of warning though - you’ll need your sunglasses on before you look at his newly painted car – marvellous!
