After approx 18years ownership i must now sell my 400se. So whats it worth? The car needs a restoration and has an expensive number plate of TAZ40. Its done about 55k with no history as it was never my intention to sell her so never bothered to keep a file.
So whats she worth?

Depends how you define restoration.
'Light resto' ie carpets/veneer/spit and polish £6K+
'Medium resto' ie above + paintwork or chassis £4.5K
'Full resto' ie all of the above £3 - £3.5K
'Total basket case' knock off another £1k.

All IMHO of course. HTH.

Good luck, Paul.

Its worth what the buyer is willing to pay. Start off high and reduce if it fails to sell. My one is an 89 and it failed to sell at 6.5K even though a fortune has been spent on it. I've decided to keep it, as its too much fun. I need something to take my mind off the Mrs.

That's a classy colour Neill. But we need more detailed piccies - what's it look like now - stone chips, interior wear, engine bay, would comedy-adis have his dinner off the chassis, etc, etc.

As people are saying a lot is really down to condition. But also mileage. What documentation do you have, any old MOT's, or nothing at all? If you've had it MOT'd regularly you might be able to get some details of mileage back from DVLA?

The car has been enjoyed and maintained but is now tired and needs TLC in the form of a respray, carpets etc etc

I could spin you a great story of why she must be sold, but the crux of the problem is that if i dont get the finances for a downstairs bathroom and have it built quick for when i leave hospital i may be using a bucket.

Oh dear!

Starting price is optimistic with the description of the car you are giving!

I think you may need to be more realistic on the starting price to attract bidders OR make more of an effort on the description, ie

1. Interior - using the word 'etc' and not inc. pictures will leave buyer assuming full resto/worse case (£700);
2. Hood - again no pictures = assume 'renovo' could mean new hood /screen (£700);
3. Chassis - I know your circumstances may mean you can't check but again a buyer would have to assume worse case scenario until your 'mates' professional/warranted full chassis inspection (allow £2k);
4. History - yes or no? Again, even with none you can verify mileage and give purchaser some piece of mind;
5. Respray - does it really need a full respray (£2 - £4k )
6. Is tired/needs TLC again could include a multitude of jobs on top of the above list - if not then say so .... (£...?)

The above list could easily mean £6-8K in addition to the purchase price....

Genuinely trying to offer constructive criticism as you are in need and all IMHO of course.

Paul.

I agree - you need to give it a more positive spin. I know you're in a dark place but the buyer will pick up on these vibes and the price won't acheive the high point you are looking for.

Probably best to revise the ad quickly or withdraw it and re-submit.

I like the ad. Blunt and to the point, just like Neill. No point in pizzing about.If anyone is serious about buying it they will go and have a looksee and they wont be disapointed or under any illusions. Eggs is eggs. I once travelled a very long way to buy a Wedge with a fantastic description only to find it was … well a shed. A very long way for nothing, most annoying. The price has to be about right, £2K for the plate means the Wedge is only £2K. Go on find another 400 for 2K. Good Luck Neill thumbup

Hopefully you are on the mend pistolar. Only once saw your wedge beast in the flesh at Zolder a long time ago.

Agree with badred, nothing commercial just the proper truth as it is. These are cars for serious enthusiasts anyway and we don't like to faff around. But an addition to advertising could perhaps be with the wedge forum as a 'reference - wedge forum approved', for a potential buyer to understand that you know your wedge business (wedges restored/rebuilt/upgraded by yourself, people you helped) and adding credibility to the advert, helping the serious potential buyer to correctly appreciate the honesty and to consider to buy (unfortunately) the wedge of you.
