Hi,

Thought I'd put up some details of this car. My dad bought it about 5 or 6 years ago as a salvage car. We'd already rebuilt 3 NA VX220s, so it wasn't a new experience for us! Unfortunately I don't have any photos of it damaged on this computer, but it had suffered light damage to the front clam only, but the chassis was fine, so an easy repair really. Fast forward to a couple of years ago and my dad moved house to a new place with a big garden requiring a lot of upkeep. Living on his own and working long hours, the car hasn't turned a wheel in over 2 years! So, my brother has decided to buy it. He's currently working overseas and will be back in the late summer to get it back on the road.

I hope to update this thread with progress required to get it back on the road. The front clam has a scuff from a chance meeting with a hedge whilst being a little over zealous on one of the famous VX220 Chases! My brother has thoughts to change the wheels to a 16/17" combo, road/track tyres, coilovers and bigger brakes. Power is plentiful at the moment, with an estimated 260-270hp on tap.

Spec:

About 30k miles
Coral blue
Blue and black leather interior including extended leather doorcards
Remote central locking
CD player
Courtney Sport stage 3 remap
PACE charge cooler system
Custom one off exhaust (very loud!)

Photos!

The day we got it home...sorry for the quality (2005 mobile phone!!)

Bent charge cooler rad, but goes to show how light the damage was!

Finished!

I took these a long time ago!!

How it looks now..

Poor old car!

So stay posted for further updates. Looking forward to taking a ride out in it again. As my brother lives in my spare room, I'm sure I'll be attending a lot of PH meets in it with him!

Thanks for looking

Dan

Dan, I would appreciate it is people stopped posting pictures up of VX220's, I already miss mine enough without being constantly reminded wink

In all seriousness though it looks lovely, they are such great fun to drive. Has it been used on track? I only used mine on track once and it was probably the best day I had in the car, such a great day!

I forgot to mention how well the shape has dated, it still in my eyes looks like a modern car despite it being a 12 year old design.

What exhaust is on the car? I don't recognise it.

Haha! I feel the same when I keep seein photos and threads on Z4M's!

It's an amazing car, bit of a handful at the moment, but hopefully should be able to improve that with better wheels, tyres and coilovers.

Used to be very active on the VX220 forums. Have owned 5 in total between my dad and I. We have tracked the yellow and blue non turbo cars, but not this one yet. Plan is to track this one a lot when my brother is back and it's on the road.

The exhaust is a completely custom made one off jobby. It does look similar to the Regal one, but it's not the same. It was fitted by the first owner, so we're not sure what it is!

Awful isn't it!

Is it currently standard suspension-wise then? I thought about fitting TD's to mine along with coilovers but ended up just sticking with the turbo wheels with KU31's and fitted Exige S2 Bilsteins - I was really impressed with these, especially for the money.

I would imagine that 270bhp feels rather rapid in a VX. I have always assumed that a well set up stage 2 VXT would be pretty much the perfect package in terms of power and handling. So with a stage 3 being only 20bhp (or so) more this is probably quite similar.

I used to visit the VX220.org.uk daily and I always thought it was a good forum with lots of info and knowledgeable people on there, I rarely go on now though as I don't really have much of a need to.

Get it on track! The best and safest way of using all of it's potential.

Regal was my first thought but the tip is a different hence why I asked, is it quite loud?

I really should find a way of getting back into an Elise chassis'd car, it will probably be a VX220 to be honest as they represent such great value for money at the moment, keep it quiet though!

My NA has Nitrons and I feel they are too stiff for anything other than a perfect newly tarred road. Previous owner had them fitted but if it was my money and I wanted to upgrade then I would be going for Exige Bilsteins.

Yep, standard suspension thus far. Exige S2 Bilsteins sound like a good idea. Will look into that.

I used to be very active on the forum when we first started rebuilding them, but haven't been on there for a while. I was a member when John Thorne first started up the forum! Learnt a lot from him and others and helped a lot of other people out too when everyone started crashing them and rebuilding them.

Yes, the exhaust is pretty loud. Pops and bangs a lot. It's a nice system, not measured the db though. Sounds lovely.
