Hi all this weekend whilst attending Chatsworth the fan switch for the heater decided to stop working on hi speed. It still works on slow speed but for peace of mind i would like to fix it.

Do you know what the switch comes from? Ford/Rover?

Alternatively i seem to remember from another thread it could be possible to fix it. If so is this correct and how?

Cheers

I'd take it out and spray some contact spray on it to clean the contacts, might just be a case of loosening contact or worn out a little. No idea what they came from these switches look like the ones in older busses.

TR7 and (I think) Austin Priceless used the same switches. There were two types though, one had 'ribs' along the ends of the levers, the other type was plain.

As said, they can be stripped for cleaning. The usual problem with the heater switch is that the heater motor draws more current on high speed than the switch can happily cope with, so either the plastic bits melt or the metal bits arc and burn out. A better fix is to rewire the high speed position so that it pulls in a relay which in turn feeds the high speed winding of the motor.

ETA: like this...
