i found the problem with the electrics..

It was the wiring to the lambda sensors, i recently had 2 new lambda sensors fitted and i guess the mechanic used the wrong connector because water got inside, they link back to the same fuse.
I have not discussed responsibility yet but i basically got 200 in expenses getting the car to the garage and now he is saying i need 2 new lambda sensors and i dont know if he is going to try and put his hours on top, basically i will be damned if i am going tp swallow a big bill just becauase he put the wrong connectors..

How would you approach it? he used plastic cylindrical connectors that were vertical, so that if a drop of water gets on the wires it runs down and collects inside the connector.
Should the mechanic accept responsibility for this mistake, with the way he had wired them i could never have washed the car.

basically - you need to let him know you are not happy before he prepares the bill

are you sure water in the connectors is the problem ?

remember this is a specialist car and not many mechanics know much about them - in fairness to him he probably didn't realise this was going to cause a problem - or do you think he is a bodger

if you damage your relationship with him, you won't be able to go back there

be reasonable and expect him to do the same

The car has been running 8 years and the first time i run the car after fitting a new lambda sensor and this happens.
but the plot thickens, as it turns out this is the same lambda that Daddysumo pointed out on the diagnostics screen and it questioned whether it was working.
The mechanic is saying it was water in the factory connector not in the new wire connectors that he did, but could this just be a case that it was wired up wrong? the water has been removed from the cnnector with electrical spray, but whenever we reconnect the sensor it still pops the fuse..

I do not know enough about electrics, but i would have thought when the water had gone then why would it still short unless the wiring is wrong or there is a problem with the wires..could this be wired wrong r can only water in the connector cause a short?

the sensor will have 4 wires

2 will heat the sensor

2 will send a 0-1v signal

i suggest you wire one up and see which wires heat it up

then work out if it is wired wrong wink

If the genuine Ford ones were used how can you wire them wrong as they come with the female socket fitted ? On that basis it could well have been water that has caused the problem !

it was not water, it was the rear lambda and was completely dry, the front that had a bit of water turns out was not the problem

So we tok out the offending lambda sensor which was new only fitted just before the break down, and all the wires had melted together at the end, its not caused by heat from the turbo or the exhaust as they are heat wrapped and i can literally touch them, also where the wires have melted together its only over a 3mm area right where they connect into the lambda, i wonder waht could have happened to have caused this? faulty sensor? i fitted an identical one on the other turbo and its not had the same problem, so maybe it was just an oddball faulty sensor.

The thing is i fitted new sensors to try make the car run and its ended up costing me approx 500 and temporarily diasbled the car..lol..totally the opposite result to what was intended, and to top it all off just as i got the car back together i accidental took a chunk out of the battery and spilled its acidic contents, so i'm not having a good time of it recently....smile
