3 hours more battery life with chip changeWhich is all very well, but how on earth you supposed to know if you have 2,4? Someone said it will have the iCloud logo on the box, which mine does, but getting conflicting reports. Anyone have a concrete way of finding out?

In my opinion the battery on my 3 doesn't last anywhere near as long as my 2.
I'm not that happy with my 3 to be honest.

I'm not that happy with my 3 to be honest. It does have a lot more stuff to power. and a much bigger battery to provide that power. I had a quick play with one for the first time last week - they are way heavier than the iPad 2. I'd say too heavy - you would soon need to be resting it on something.

I did read there was an app that would be able to tell you, can't remember the name unfortunately though! Will have a dig around to see if I can find the link anywhere.

It's not really upgrading, it's just processor develop,ent and evolution. Technology improves...

It's a constant development cycle. Invariably if you buy a particular chip in a PC when it comes out, by the end of its life the same chip will be an improved version. Development continues, and economies of scale often mean they can make a better chip for less money. Personally, I don't get the fuss that's being made about this on Apple blog sites.

So you went for an ipad2, how are you finding it compared to the original ? I can see why you want to know if you have the upgrade rather than old stock, my ipad2 which I have had since last September has been used all day every day and the battery has been excellent

It is a lot smoother, and noticeably quicker. Haven't had any safari crashes either, which is nice. Also nice to be able to Skype and FaceTime from my hammock, rather than from the macair.

I deal with heavy duty IT kit for a living. All I was saying is that this is not an unusual practice. If you've got a 2.4, then great - if not, would you have ever known, without the press reports? My guess is you would have been perfectly happy.

I am happy, and haven't said otherwise, but finding out about 2,4 means I then want to find out how I know what I have. Now as it is a wifi I would imagine it is 2,1, but with this news how would I know? It is a matter of curiosity more than anything else. I am more than happy with my 2.

I must admit my ipad2 is unbelievable on battery life and I've always been astounded by it.....maybe I have the new chip!
