In an attempt to drag myself into the 21st century I bought a basic TomTom "start" model 1EX00 for our jolly round Scotland last year and made do with just putting post codes in daily so I could at least find the hotel should I lose the group.

Would any one know if this is even capable of accepting these route files ?

If yes, and this is a big ask, would anyone be prepared to load said files if I posted it to you (obviousley all at my risk)and get it back when we meet up?

Mike. (total computer numpty)

Mike

If anyone can confirm that your model of satnav will accept the route files I can try and load them for you .

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I am afraid it is not possible to put the ITN files (from Ian) in your TomTom Start model.
Your model is "only" capable for a max of 4 Waypoints (stops) in a route.
So only if the ITN files contain 4 or less Waypoints they could be stored in your device by manually putting in these stops.
I guess these 4 stops cannot be stored for later use ??? So you would have to put in these for stops just before the trip.

For the ITN with more than 4 stops (the longer routes) you could copy the 4 most important stops, but that would only be a estimate of the "real" route.

See link how to program stops.

Graham, if we leave Dunkirk at 08.15 we will be in France until 12.08 according to Google maps. But, depending on progress we might be later crossing the border...or perhaps a bit earlier... drivingbiggrin

Tried to follow the routes on the Google maps links as closely as possible but it wasn't easy. Still trying to work out the route back to Dunkirk. At least if I do get lost I know where I should be going and can find my way. Hopefully there will be someone as slow as me with a sat nav or navigator so I can follow them and only have to fall back on the map if I do get lost. My (not very) smart-phone has a sat nav which should get me to the hotels. The battery life is crap in nav mode though. I wish the bloody thing could make and receive ‘phone calls ie the basic function of a sodding ‘phone. That’s progress for you. A ‘phone that can navigate you across hundreds of miles (or at least untill the battery runs out ie 500yds) but can’t make a ***********ing ‘phone call. Rant rant rant rant…………………..ranting

I've decided I'm going to follow you. I've found out my map predates the year when the Froggies decided to reclassify all of their road numbers so that nothing makes sense to any pauvre Anglais
maintenant. But I know how to find the hotel at Loon-Plage, if that's where we're staying? Or shall I bring my tent.........?
PS Somebody called me on my phone the other day. No idea who it was, coz the battery ran out.....rolleyes

Mike, I'm afraid that when it comes to computer numptiness, I leave you covered in the dust of my ineptitudeness. I've often admired the easy casual way you add links & clickies & even photos that leave me in total admiration of your prowess on the digital keyboard. I only hope that one day I can
attain the level where it would take me less than 45 minutes to type in this amount of scensoredt.
I only wish I was joking.typemadconfusedfuriousragecursecensoredfuriousweepingrantingmoan

Chaps.

I have decided to use the 4th way point as a destination which will allow me to add in 3 other way points using the co-ordinates below. Please do not hold me to the accuracey of them but I have done my best to get them right.

As its not a race and there is no harm in stopping I am going to give it a go and see how I get on. When I reach the destination, I will just do the same again.

I have taken the name places from Longers sat nav files where listed and the co-ordinates copied from google earth so pretty much everything has been copied and pasted to try and cut down on any typing issues. Hope this helps? I have a fairly new Tom Tom Via and it appears fairly easy to add in co-ordinates - Famous last words!!!

It did my head in but its done now. Loading up the way points only takes a couple of minutes and you can always skip the odd one if you want.
With Jane as the co pilot, thought the pain of sorting out the route would be well worth doing smile
