Morning all. I just wondered if any Swiss based PH’ers might be able to help with a little storage problem I am facing. I am looking to move in June to an apartment in Thalwil ZH. The only problem with the new place is the lack of parking. I have had no problem finding individual parking spaces, shared garages etc. But my requirements are a bit more complex than that. Ideally looking for: Storage for a minimum 4 cars + 1 motorbike + Winter tyres + tools etc etc. Have tried the usual Homegate.ch with no success, even when casting the search parameters further afield. It wouldn't matter having to travel to a storage unit and keeping another parking space locally. But still no luck. Really don't want to end up having 4-5 garages spread around.

Any ideas would be much appreciated and good suggestions rewarded with beer

Depending on the value of your fleet, you might find some local public car park where you can rent a (4) spaces on a monthly basis. Over here in Nyon, that'll cost circa CHF220 per month each but over your way, you might have to dig deeper...

just checked your profile: 16 cars: some fleet

you could try property agents in the area. perhaps empty commercial property where landlords would consider renting a block of spaces (some rent better than no rent)

some specialists/dealers (eg Foitek Altendorf) offer places for rent. not cheap though.

i heard there is going to be managed parking in Schindeleggi but as i found a space i didnt investigate and dont have details

good luck

Thanks for the responses guys. Have tried approaching some of the property rental companies without much success. Almost secured a 4 car garage with a hobby room workshop until I read thje contract and it stipulated that I was not to carry out any work on the cars in the garage. Sort of defeats the point of having a workshop.

I think the next plan of action will be to ask around the local farmers and see if they have a barn they would like to rent out. Don't think I will get anything like the one I have in the UK.....

I currently use a quiet hotel garage in central Zurich where you'd be should be able to rent 4+ spaces together on a rolling monthly basis. It has a security guard / video surveillance etc. Monthly rental per space is also pretty good ... for Zurich, but probably more than you'd pay further out. Its not the kind of place you could keep tools/tyres though. PM me if you'd like the details...

This is fairly normal if you are renting parking spaces in large garages. There are some general rules that apply to all these underground carparks like: nothing combustible (e.g. firewood), no working on / servicing the car, no cleaning the car. This is Switzerland and they love their rules.

You'd be better off talking to car garages (but not in Zürich) and renting space from them.

I know what you mean. But this was a seperate detached building with a store room and a work bench. It seemed crazy. I can understand if it is a shared area and other cars close by. Anyway, the search continues. Thanks again for the responses guys.

With space at a premium but funds not an object you could do what Jean-Pierre Slavic did and build a 1,400m underground storage facility for your toys.... wobble

Mark, have you thought of renting something just over the border here? Probably would be a lot cheaper, but I don't know the legal position on registration of vehicles when stored here... but there seem to be some collectors who do. I can help looking if you want as I get regular immobilien updates.

Hi John, many thanks for the offer. I think I will consider it if I don't manage to find anything closer. Really need something that I can access fairly easily if I want to swap cars mid week. It's bad enough having most of the cars in the UK, without having the Swiss registered ones an hour away. Plus with things like the BMW cabrio and the Van Diemen, it would be great to work on them in the Winter evenings.
Over the weekend I bought the local farmers a few beers and fingers crossed they may have found me something just outside Affoltern am Albis. Will go and take a look at it tomorrow evening.

Many thanks again!
