Got a call from my pregnant partner at 0645 this morning, crying her eyes out she told me someone has gone into the back off her and drove off.

She was stationary at a roundabout with traffic lights, when he attemptted at the last minute to get into the middle lane as it was clear.

He failed, smashing her bumper to pieces.

The lights went green and the roundabout was busy with traffic so my partner went round and pulled into the nearest bus stop. (70m round the roundabout he was following)

Said wker drove off.

She now realises that she should have stopped at the scene, but in shock and being a pregnant panicking women she thought otherwise.

Phoned up Leeds CCTV and they have none on that road, reported it to the police 'nothing they can do about it' 'you will have to get your insurers to investigate'. Unbelieveable.

OH has now come back from docs, baby seems ok. We couldnt give a st about claims or whiplash.

Just want the tt brought to justice.

Oh and the car?

Council estate citroen picasso, guess i was right about them all along.

Did she get the reg of the car and such? The police should be investigating that if they have something to investigate.

Wouldn't surprise me if they thought her driving off was her making a run for it too so just thought "fk it" and went.

Did she not get the reg number?

She drove 70m indicated and pulled in, he was behind her at that time.

As she pulled in, he drove off.

How would you do it then tbc?

Op, main thing is the little ones ok and so is your Mrs. The car comes second.

The only thing I would advise is maybe wait in the same location at the same time for a few days to find a similar car with similar damage, that may give the police something to go on. Without a reg it's going to nigh on impossible.

Was there any witnesses to this, such as other traffic waiting at the lights? Perhaps naming the road incase someone on here was present at the time? Long shot but stranger things have happened.

Glad the kid is ok.

I assume from your personal info this was in Yorkshire? It might be usefull to post as much detail in the regional bit of ph? You never know, something might come up? The cars going to have damage and will either be driving around or getting fixed, either way someone on here might just know.

TBH what do you expect the police to do?

The only thing you can do is report it to the police so they have a record incase the other party comes forward to claim your wife left the scene of the accident (as they may do if they try and claim on insurance) and decidide if you should tell your insureance company (as all of us would as the policy requires that you do wink )

Glad the wife is OK... same thing happened to my wife when she was 8 months pregnant, she ended up in hospital for three days.

But I have to ask, why 'unbelievable'?

Its a minor road traffic accident and there are no injuries. What do you expect the 'authorities' to do? Theres no CCTV images to review, what actions should they take?

Beleive it or not, this is what your insurance is actually for.

How do i go about claiming if the person who caused the accident he fked off?

It will probably be cheaper to get a second hand bumper and fix it myself.

This is not really a whinge at the police, more at the tt that drove off.

The police are completely and utterly useless. I recently had a bicycle stolen, then found the bike up for sale on ebay, phoned the police and they did nothing. Then, unbelievably the seller listed his address on ebay, went into the police station, gave them his name and details, still nothing happened. You then think to yourself that you should go round there yourself but at the end of the day this person clearly knows where I live and judging from our two address' I've got a lot more to vandalise than he has. Oh, the same seller is also selling knock off perfumes.

Look out for a green Picasso with a bit of bumper dammage, or possibly not if it has been fixed or did not do much? I'm sorry, but I think they have better things to do. The fact that someone drove off after an accident is not very nice, but I think peoples expectations are a little high.

What Area of Leeds and is it mainly frontal damage? I spend a lot of time between York and Leeds Uni so can keep an eye out. I am of the opinion that either nutters drive Picasso's or they are turned into nutters because they drive them.

you can't claim, clearly off the third party insurance because you dont know the third party involved as he drove off. If there is significant damage you can choose to either claim off your own insurance or pay for it yourself. This is a pain for you and the tt that drove off got away with it this time. Likelyhood is though, as he drove off, he probably didnt have insurance either, so you would still of had of pay for this yourself.

Dont be angry though, there is no point. You cant go round inspecting every green Picasso in the area, and neither can the police. Even if you found the right car, you probably wouldnt be able to proove the guilty party was involved.

Just put it behind you, repair the car, and remind yourself that fortuantly the police dont need to get involved as the missus and baby are fine. These things happen mate. Hopefully the tt will get his one day.
