Just been round the factory tour to see what's going on. There's a number of pre-production convertibles in use by management. The plant is running at less than half speed as it's only been open a few days since shut-down and they are concentrating solely on coupes at this stage. The color range to be offered for 2005 has not yet been finalised and the only colors we saw in the plant were dark red, copper, silver, black, white and yellow. There was no hint about when there might be a hardtop body style or an upgraded motor.
The Americans on the tour from states that require a front licence plate are as puzzled as Europeans about where the front plate is going to go - or more to the point how it wll look when it gets there! It looks very much as though the car gets its radiator air through the front (as opposed to C5 underneath) so anyone who sticks a plate in the slot is headed for a very hot motor.
Opinions on the tour were that the car looks absolutely fantastic.........from the windshield back. No-one seemed very happy with the front, generally saying it looks too Camaro/Firebird or too Japanese.
Overall it was a very worthwhile tour and the Corvette Museum is very good too. All of the cars awaiting customer collection there were blue commemorative Z06s.
The Museum sell a complete set of all years C5 dealer brochures. The C5 launch info is particularly interesting and says how they retained some vital Corvette cues from the past, including pop-up headlamps and a front hinged hood. Roll on the C6!

Yes - I did manage to get over the excitement of the visits and avoid placing an order there and then!

Interesting news from our man in the colonies ! Has your personal opinion on the looks of the C6 changed since seeing it on the production line ?

Nope, no change. Right now I just couldn't bring myself to swap the C5 for a car with a front that looks like that. Maybe when the 5 is getting a bit older and the C6 nose has had some mid-life cosmetic surgery! Seriously the big questions remain how it drives and UK dealer support (or lack of it).
