Hello You Lot, I purchased a brake light and turn signal thingy from one of those eBay people that reply with expressions like 'ensure concrete elbow to the fixture up-ness', but it has of course been delivered without fitting instructions. This is the light: And these are the things that come with it: So, here is my question(s): what the f k are they, and how do I wire this up including them? My first guess is that they are very tiny communists, and when I wire them up they'll rise up to overthrow me. It's that, isn't it? Ps I've just had a response from the seller. He says: Hello A Man Thank the contact for your mail We are all Motorcycle Parts & Accessories don't yes include Installation Instructions. Please ask the professional install it .If you don't know how to install it we apologize for thank you for your understanding!!. Best Regards Lin I'm just so happy he referred to me as a man.

first guess is those are resistor packs to stop the indicators having a fit when you replace the 20w bulb with some tiny LEDs

That sounds plausible. So it's wire one in per side in line with one of the indicator feeds?

I expect they're resistors are there to stop the lights flashing faster than they have to.
Wire them in on each (left and right) turn signal supply.

Make sure the resistors aren't touching anything that can melt as they can get hot and be sure to ensure concrete elbow to the fixture up-ness.

Wot that lot said.
I can't remember if it's MOT or C&U regs that make it illegal to have less than a set distance between indicators, I've never seen one of those lamps that doesn't fall foul of this, so it's just another reason to get stopped.

Hooray! Do I know how to invest and improve, or what? It's what, isn't it? I knew it.

They look like the ones off the speed controller on old Tamyia RC cars, they'll get too hot to touch rather quickly I reckon.

Might be worth attaching a small heat sink to each one if your worried about heat and location?

I mean, I do, obviously, but let's imagine I don't. How would I do it? Y'know, just for kicks, like. BTW, do the resistors stay in those block things, or is that just packaging?

Just leave the original indicators attached to the bike that way you can hang the resistors off them and they will get lots of airflow. No wonder they didn't bother including instructions. Installation is such a doddle, I am sure they didn't want to offend you.

Like just now, when you implied I was fat. I'm really hoping that leaving the indicators on is a joke, but am not confident enough to be sure, so I will sort of smile and nod as if I know things. Things that matter. >smile< >nodsagely<

The resistors stay in the block things. The ones I used had a metal heatsink type case rather than the ceramic looking ones you have, I just cable tied them to the rear subframe to stop them melting anything as they still got hot.
I've heard of people using normal indicator bulbs stashed under the rear seat instead of resistors. They certainly won't get AS hot as the resistors, but 20W bulbs will still get hot enough that you wouldn't want to touch them for very long while they are lit.

As for a heatsink, clamp them to a large bit of metal so the metal conducts the heat away. Use a metal clamp to do this, if you araldite for example then the heat causes the araldite to fail. oh & yes, very nice upgrade skills

>smile< >nodsagely< Nodding and smiling always works for me when I don't understand. I work with a Glaswegian and I can't understand anything he says. A pleasant side effect is that he always asks other people to do things as nothing seems to get done when he asks me. I would call that a result.
