I am fortunate enough to own a Cobra and was out in it on Saturday morning when a passerby told me of Carroll Shelbys death. I know there have been long debates about replicas on this site but isnt it a greater tribute to the man that his creation has been recreated more than any other car on the planet.

Certainly a legend. RIP.
Helped Ford start off the GT40 programme. And inspired Jack Griffith stuff a Ford V8 into a TVR giving us the original Griffith. Nick

Last issue of TG mag ran a feature on Shelby, with what they said then was likely to be the last interview Shelby would make, tho they hoped it wouldn’t have been. Was a good article, in which he said he'd regretted leaving Ford when he did, as the cars put out under dodge were nothing but weak. although i wasnt aware he had quite a hand in the development of the 1st gen Viper. He went on to state he’d never collaborate with any other Manufacturer than Ford for as long as his company lived. He was also the longest survivor of a heart bypass at the time of print too. but I guess that sadly caught up with him. R.I.P Carroll Shelby

I bet Carroll's having a blast with Enzo and all the other motoring greats who've left us If there is an afterlife then it's amusing to imagine Enzo Ferrari, Ferdinand Porsche, Colin Chapman etc furiously arguing with each other in the pit lane in the sky. They've just got over Peter Wheeler arriving and calling them all poofs and now Shelby has landed threatening to kick their asses. Of course Fangio, Clarke and Senna are having similar barnys as we speak. Great man and a true loss to the car community. Legend.

Was fortunate enough to be in the company of this recently; What put a smile on my face, was the fact that it was 'original', the interior certainly seemed to be..... RIP Big Man.

The legend....the man. I had the privelige of meeting Carroll a couple years ago in Arizona at the Barrett-Jackson auction. A buddy had purchased one of the 67 Shelby 350GT's that was up for sale and Carroll was kind enough to sign the glove box for him. My bud chatted him up for a couple minutes, I got tongue tied and didn't speak a word, I just stood there in amazement that I got to meet the one the only "Carroll Shelby". Carroll waved on one of his associates who produced a couple Cobra caps that Carroll proceeded to sign. He could see how smitten we were in meeting him and with a hand shake he was off to tend to the horde of fans that were assembling around him. He was a car guy's car guy. He'll never be forgotten at least not by this car guy. God's speed Carroll!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very sad to hear indeed. Sadly nothing ever lasts forever, and I can only thank him via this message by saying a massive thank you for creating my most favourite cars of all time. True driving cars! R.I.P Carroll

A remarkable man, visionary, motivator, a born salesman but so charismatic. Obviously such a gifted racing driver, yep so many talents, and a fighter to shrug off those health issues. A very charitable man, too. There is something very special about all that Shelby American and Ford Total Performance stuff in the early/mid sixties, the dedication of Shelby and his cohorts Miles, Gurney, Bondurant, Hill, Remington, Olsen and others. Such wild looking cars, such wild sounding engines, as a youngster in those days I never got over it ! Still love firing up a Ford small block.
R.I.P. Mr Shelby.
