Wonderful little interview with Frank Williams quoted on the Autosport site this morning at http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/99626. I won't quote the whole thing, but some wonderful things been said including...

fks sake all this wking about Maldonado is making me sick.
He's won ONE race for fks sake and the only reason why he did win is because whether you agree with it or not the FASTEST man on track was put to the back of the grid fks sake get some perspective.
Not like he beat the 2 WC's behind him or anything, or held Alonso off while at the same time preserving his tyres better than the most complete driver on the grid. I agree with you completely it was a crap performance and he chanced into it, he drove terribly

If I remember correctly. Alonso had beaten him to the 1st corner. So not only did he hold off a WC. He passed him. (ok it was strategy, but he did the driving to make the strategy work)I agree with you completely it was a crap performance and he chanced into it, he drove terribly
hmmm...last Williams driver to fluff a deadcert victory was Rosberg wasn't it? He won a race this year and I don't recall him being termed a wker...
Whatever way you cut it, Maldonado resisted enormous pressure to put that car on the front row and to win that race. He thoroughly deserved the win and I do not believe that it was cut and dried that Hamilton would had won the race had he started from pole.

I've always thought Maldonado something of an enigma - in GP2 he thrived when it rained or he was at Monaco. Then suddenly he pulls 6 wins out of his hat and strolls to the championship in dominant fashion. As soon as the title was his he looked decidedly ordinary again. Very odd.
His win last weekend was an extremely classy drive, especially when you look at his performance relative to his team mate. Can't see any fault - he was impervious to the best Alonso could throw at him, managed his tyres and did it all after banging in a great qualifying lap to land himself on the front row. Very impressive stuff.

We got the same rubbish when Rosberg won. There has been plenty of mid-pack drivers that occasionally win a race, Maldonardo (and Rosberg) didn't level up and suddenly become a better driver.
