I know I am in a minority and most people use portable units, but I cant bear them, hate having them stuck to the window, cables, slow to pick up satellite signal etc etc.

I had a Blaupunkt (Rome I think it was) single din nav unit in a Lotus before.

Anyone aware of a half decent single din nav unit still in manufacture?

Not really looking for one of those pop up screen units either, mainly as they tend to be uber expensive and the nav units are another box requiring space...

I like the look of one of these at the moment - your iPhone can be used as the sat nab when required?

Thanks for that. Funny had found this just a few minutes ago. Only issue is it appears to take about 2 minutes to start up, and the nav is just google mapping without turn by turn instructions.

Seems about the only thing about at the moment though!

Can't say i've ever seen one in the flesh, or used one, but looks a damn sight better than the stupid single din sized screen.

I've got a Pioneer Avic single-din unit which has a flip up screen. It's quite old now but has loads of features, iPod control and other goodies and does work well.

It's DVD based. I had previously thought you couldn't, however stand corrected (And will be placing an order!)

2010 update £8.99

There seem to be some great bargains on eBay as people have updated. Originally the unit was about £1000 I gather.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-AVIC-X1-Complete...

I think for the price it is now it's hard to beat. Mine came with the car, including a Bury phone kit and subwoofer, and it's a great system. Touchscreen too, and the TMC works really well pointing out congestion ahead.

Only slight annoyance is that the iPod cable in the glovebox does not charge it...

ETA- There is also a slightly later Bluetooth version too.

it runs on Android, so you could install a proper nav app?

beware of Pioneer products, as good as they are the map updates are slow in coming out and they dont do updates for older products, have a avic900dvd sat nav coupled with a pop out double din touch screen and they stopped making updates for that 2 years ago, even though then it was the same disk as the avic x1, and the proper updates not copied ones are about £400, great unit but the manufacturer lets themselves down with the updates and price shame on you Pioneer!

Doesn't seem there is much about if you want to be able to update it...

I've fitted this to all my cars.

I'm sure stereo officianados won't like it but they are excellent.

No more crap to carry around, no more wires, no more plugging phones in and syncing etc.

Infinitely smarter than the Parrot unit as that uses its own ap store which has nothing of any use.

The O also means if you use more than one car you never have to double buy kit or remember to move stuff from one car to another.

I am an idiot and this product is idiot proof.

You had a massive bargain there, they generally go for 3 to 4 times that! Certainly I paid a lot more for mine!

I heard the "Indiananapolis pro v7" discs are on certain popular sites.

It has not arrived yet, but fingers crossed!

I bit the bullet and ordered the latest disks off Amazon (from Germany), and I am still only at £150, so happy with that.
