Hi Everbody. I'm looking to gain some info of your experiences with these Ford Heated windscreens. We have a 2009 Focus 1.8 TDCi Titanium with what I thought was this useful feature. However, heres the drawback. We've had this car since 21 November 2011. On Friday it is due to have its second, yes second new windscreen since we bought it.
The original got a chip, was repaired by Autoglass, then cracked in a different place within days of the repair.
That replacement got a chip yesterday, was repaired by Autoglass today and cracked during the repair.
My Questions are these:
1} Are they just weaker than a standard windscreen because of the way they are constructed? 2) Has anyone else out there had multiple windscreen woes with this type? 3) Are we just ridiculously unlucky? 4} Are the men from Autoglass out there hiding in bushes, drumming up extra business with catapults, now they have gone into administration????

I had a 2003 focus for a couple of years with one and had no bother, my Dad has had 3 cars with them and they were fine, the Puma one has a stone chip but I haven't done anything with it yet.
I've had more trouble with non heated screens that the heated one, my Fiesta had 4 new screens and a repair in 3 years.

Never had any chips at all. They are a brilliant bit of kit, quick & easy in the winter. I think you have just been unlucky.

After these couple of replies I'm leaning towards the opinion it's just Doris following Tipper lorries too close. Must admit I had a 1990 Fiesta 1.6S with a quickclear from '91 to '95 and never had any chips or other problems. I just thought that nowadays with the neverending drive for cheapness and lighter weight, that Ford might be skimping on the quality of said item.

Just sold a 2005 Mondeo, with it's original QuickClear screen, plenty of chips on it, and no cracks. It was delaminating at the edges a little, and some of the heater lines weren't working, but otherwise no problems.
I think less tailgating is required if you're losing screens on a regular basis.

Had a couple of chips that were repaired, nothing more. Possibly par for the course over a six figure mileage. 3] Pretty unlucky & possibly too close or plenty of crap on the roads you use. You should see the state of my bonnet - I'm not surprised at all that I've had a couple of chips. 4] Just sounds like one of those things TBH.

I'm a Ford dealer and we don't get through any more screens then anyone else. Although I just put one in my New Focus with all the radar etc in the screen and it was £420+VAT - trade!

I had a 1996 Mondeo with one that only worked on one side and looked undisturbed so am fairly confident it was original and I had that in 2009 so it lasted 13 years (before scrappage claimed the car). I also have a 2009 Mondeo which has just had its 3rd birthday with 24000 miles under its wheels and no issues at all.
