So this morning I went into my local dealer and had a test drive of a coupe c63. I was sold the second I turned the engine on!

Luckily they had a diamond white car in stock at the dealers holding compound some 5 miles out.

It was a no brainer, got a good deal, the colour I wanted and I can pick it up on Friday.

To say I cannot wait is simply an under statement. On the test drive I got 14mpg of pure thrashing....very impressed. Had it over 20 before I started gunning it.

Pics to follow on Friday.

Congrats. I've just done 250 miles today and averaged 22mpg. Who said these cars aren't economical! biggrin

Hi mate thanks by the way you gave me James Smiths number at Inchcape Mercedes a couple months back on here, today when my dealer gave me the figures for the deal I called him up and asked him if he could better it. He was very honest and told me to snap up the deal my local are offering me as he could not better it. Very honest of him.

Just glad I got the spec I was after available in stock for delivery next week.

How many miles on yours now? Did you follow the break in procedure?

22mpg sounds very attractive, what sort of journey/conditions was that on?

He's a good lad is James. Always pays to be honest smile

My car was used, so had 11k miles already on it. I reset the main 'trip' computer when i picked it up, and have now done 1500 miles, and in that 1500 miles have averaged 18.3mpg. It's not my main vehicle, so it's probably used to shorter trips of more 'spirited' driving, but after doing 250 miles yesterday (had to go from Nottingham to Oswestry and back) i can easily see how 22-25 is achievable. I wasn't hanging about yesterday wink, but a steady and consistent speed with the occasional 'sport' mode squirt from roundabouts, and blowing away a Focus RS, is enough to return 23ish.

That is very impressive for the 250 mile trip.

How are you finding everything else with the car? Have you managed to get the internet working with comand?

Is yours a saloon or coupe? I'm trying to figure out if the seats in the coupe are more of a snug fit or the saloons.

Mines a saloon. Seats are probably the most comfiest, along with being supportive, that i have had the pleasure of owning. Loads of adjustment, and memory too - which is a must imo when you have a huge range of, adjustment. Nappa leather is nice too.

In short, I really like this car. It's engine is the reason why 99% buy the C63, but the thing is, it really works in this car. The whole package just works! I sometimes criticise the gearbox responsiveness, but after a while you just learn how to adapt to it. The gearbox is fine.

My fave is to put it into Sports transmission mode, and hit the Sports traction button. Pulling out of junctions = fun smile

re internet.. i haven't even looked into this, and tbh, i'm not sure i have it? I used the Nav yesterday and found it a doddle - easy to customise and swap between various routes etc etc. I haven't found any speed camera notifications on it yet though scratchchin

I really can't fault it yet. Fuel economy is generally poor, and the reason why i haven't taken the car on longer journeys, but since realising low-mid twenties is possible, i may feel inclined to use it more.

Agreed, I went ahead with the car 100% for the engine.

I did ask my sales chap how the tech department are with something like an x pipe or secondary bypass and he didn't seem too keen on the idea. James yesterday mentioned on his own accord that the c63's are heavily restricted and that there are many options available. From that I took his dealership would be ok regarding warranty and minor mods.

Mmmmm. I'd always be wary of tuners bhp claims from a n/a engine (unless spending SERIOUS wonga and going the whole hog ie suppercharging etc). Probably money wasted imo.

The main way that the c63 engine is limited (in performance terms) is that the ECU never gives more than 50% throttle body opening......
A simple remap will give you basically the E63 engine without changing any parts.

Palmball on MB forum did pretty much everything you can do to a C63, multiple times. He was starting from a slightly different place as he had a PP+ car, but the info in the threads is still the same. Worth a read anyway.

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/general-discussion/...

Search his other threads as well. Lots and lots of great C63 info in there.

Hi Jackwood,

Looked at that thread but there's no mention of remapping to give E63 levels of power??

Admittedly not. I thought that the link you provided was to info regarding the 'throttle remap'.

Not to worry - will have a good nose around tomorrow.

Hi there, thinking of buying one of these in normal white. Any chance you could post some pics of yours? How are you enjoying it?

His factory PP+ car dyno'd at something like 503bhp and he then spent thousands on the Brabus ECU upgrade to get a wholly unimpressive 511bhp. Most people regularly get 520bhp or so by a remap as this car is restricted from the factory. Remember the engine in the PP+ car is almost the same as that of the SLS but with different intake/exhaust.

Probably not much point doing an ECU tune on a PP+ car if it only gives at best 10-20bhp extra? I think Palmball said the main barrier to extra power is lack of heat management in the C class engine bay, which makes the ECU restrict power if it gets too hot.

^^^Thanks both. However I take it that the gains are very much worthwhile in a standard car then?
