I'm new to the forum.

Basically, I've been looking at getting myself a 987 Boxster 2.7 for the past few months, but insurance has proved to be a problem (which is of course understandable-ish). I turned 20 a couple of months ago, 1 year NCB and both parents will be named drivers. The cheapest quote I've gotten so far has been from Admiral at £2200, but although it's going to be hard, does anyone know which companies I can give a call to try and get this quote down a bit?

Also, I'd LOVE to get get myself a Cayman 2.7 instead, but even Admiral has said no to it. They want me to be 21+ before I can be insured on the Cayman. The thing is, isn't the Cayman essentially a coupe version of the Boxster?

Are there any young Boxster owners here? And would you by any chance be able to put me in the right direction to get cheaper insurance? I don't mind the quote from Admiral as much, but I'm just trying my luck..[/b]

I'm only a bit older than you (22) but there'll probably be quite a difference in insurance prices. I haven't got a Boxster, but I did get a quote when I was thinking of getting one...

I don't have the actual quotes, but a 2.7 was about £1.1k and the 3.2S was around £1.7k.

This was for a 986 rather than a 987 mind, so a considerably cheaper car. I've always found Admiral to be the cheapest company until you start adding mods, but for a standard car I've never been able to find a cheaper company.

If your getting £2k quotes on a Boxster... don't even think of looking at an S2000.

I couldn't get a quote for the 3.2S at all... So I think my age does make the quotes quite a bit higher.

I'm 24 and have a 986 Boxster, only a 2.5 though. Didn't really think about engine size or anything when I was getting it first but I like it as it is.

I have it on a 2 car insurance at thte moment with a 4.6 range rover p38 and think its about £1200 for the two of them.

Quotes on there own for the Boxster were ranging from any where between £2,700 to £850.

Edit, best quote was from Admiral.

Admiral's great because you can mess about with the quote online and see how cheap you can get it.

You can try:
Raising the excess
Try a different (but still truthful) job title

Where do you live? If I use my address at Uni, the quotes are very cheap. I'll be moving home soon though and I did a sample quote and it went up hundreds. Not really a suggestion to improve your quote, but might be an explanation why your quote is so high.

Have you looked at a 986 instead of a 987?

£2,200 seems a very good price to be honest I am getting quoted £1500 on a 182 clios at the same age with 1yr ncb

TBH with a car like that it would probably be better going to a specialist broker. most 'by the numbers' website searches will throw a fit when you put those details in.

Did find whenI was looking at 22 a Boxster was cheeper that a S2000. By quite a bit I seam to remember as well

I've recently looked at getting a 986 Boxster and compared them to S2000's. The S2000 was considerably more to insure, it still carries a fierce premium with insurers although at 24, the prices aren't too bad. A house move in the offing will see me moving to a better post code so I could make even more of a saving when I change my car.

The Boxster premiums are pretty reasonable, probably because despite some decent displacements, they're not wildly fast. Loads have probably been stacked but more will have been bought, insured and driven like Ford Mondeos without issue.

Ultimately, I decided to go for a Mercedes R129 SL, probably a facelift SL 320, mainly because my commute will have changed to a long dual carriageways through a rural setting so I thought the super-GT Merc would suit more.

I got my Cayman at 22, Admiral cheapest by miles so no real suggestions otherwise sorry.

23 now and an additional 991 Carrera, surprise surprise Admiral still cheapest, but you have to fight their renewals.

Not insured with them on my Mustangs though, they both had to go through specialist brokers, so Admiral are not the answer for all cars. I think KGM is the underwriter? I have no idea which broker it was in the end, either Classic Line or another whose name I forget.
