Have been smoking for the 35 yrs and have just decided to try e-cigerettes,
I bought an aspire mini-nautilus with an eleaf istick 20watt 5.5v with 1.8 ohm coils, the juice is 18mg nicotine genie juice chocolate and the same in peach flavour.
I have read all the instructions for both devices and am still struggling to find the sweet spot to not be swamped with a bitter taste and start coughing..
Do i press the heat button as i put it in my mouth and suck (as on the youtube vids they seem to take 3 small sucks and be in dense fog.
I have it set to 6.0watts 3.4 volts and 1.8 ohms,i know that its all individual regarding taste etc but am i missing something obvious?
Good luck in switching off cigarettes!

The biggest thing to remember is that vaping isn't smoking and you shouldn't vape the way you used to smoke. Basically yes you push the button when you put the mouthpiece into your mouth, inhale, then release the button when you want to stop vaping.

i) inhaling. Don't inhale vapour direct to your lungs, use it like you'd smoke a cigar, take longer slower drags and inhale into your mouth, then draw the vapour briefly into the lungs and exhale. Smoking the faster you draw the hotter the end burns and the more smoke you get. the opposite is true vaping, the faster you draw, the more air will cool the coil and you get lower performance, so longer slower draws are much better.

ii) juice. Try and find some decent juices that are 40% VG or higher. If the juice is any good it'll say on the bottle what the PG/VG ratio is. The cheaper stuff uses 70% or 80% PG and PG is known to give liquids more throat hit. If you're just starting out then less throat hit is a good thing until you get more used to vaping.

iii) keep the power levels down a little lower while you get used to vaping - higher power = hotter coils which if you're not careful will burn the juice making it taste bad, also that increases the amount of vapour. The more vapour there is the more nicotine it has in it so the greater the throat hit.

Check to make sure your coil doesn't look dark brown or burnt. If it does change it for a new one. Start at a low power setting (anything under 3.7volts is low) and inhale slowly as per i) if you want a bit more oomph nudge the power settings up 1 notch and try again, eventually you should find a sweet spot that gives good flavour(as long as the juice you're using is reasonable) a reasonable amount of vapour and doesn't make you cough a lot. If you've been smoking a long time then your sense of taste is going to be a bit crap for a while after you quit smoking.

Don't worry too much about the dense fog bit yet. You get that by using (very)low resistance coils, high VG low nicotine liquid. First step is to find a setup you like and settings and juice that you enjoy vaping.
I have been experimenting with juices and watts/volts and have found a happy medium.
10.0 watts-4.3volts with a 1.8 ohm coil and have mixed some genie juice golden vi(golden virginia) with gold/silver (benson & hedges)both in 18mg,i get a nice throat hit similar to cigarettes and gets better as the coil beds in?(if they do?).
I tried some peanut butter juice today and it was awesome but the novelty would have worn off after 1/2 a tank though,i may try the fruit juices soon but am happy with the tobacco juices at the moment,my wife bought the same kit as me today and is using cappacinno which i think tastes crap but does smell like starbucks, but as its only my 2nd day of vaping i'm more than happy and hopefully i will not go back to cigarettes.
My 15yr old son is proud of me for doing it so thanks for all the helpful advice and tips.

I'll probably go back to my Naultilus mini, but that doesn't always make a good contact with the iStick due to the centre pin issue, so the iStick will be returned when I get back from my hols.

Anyone had any joy with a diy fix of a dodgy iStick centre pin? My mini iStick is the same, but not quite as bad. A lot of people recommend using a Nautilus, on account of it having a spring-loaded centre pin, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the (strong) spring of my Nautilus's pin caused the issue (it was fine for a week using an old Nova tank).
And I've tried an adaptor, and o-rings under the tank, and loosening the tank slightly. Any of those will work for a few seconds, then it's back to a weak vape, as if the batetry is flat.
You need the bending adapter it adds a spring loaded center pin. I never have problem firing

Definately add in some Apple Bobbin. Im going to try it tonight on my new dripper.
Yep its bloody lovely.

This thing is bloody awesome. On full airflow with a wide bore drip tip I can take a full lung inhale. I have been using 6mg of nicotine in my juice for a while and suppose I have got used to it but after three or four lung hits I needed to put it down for a bit, maybe get some 3mg with the next batch. Thick/dense clouds of vapour off a hand coiled Kanger coil. I think I need a proper RDA eek

Good isn't it smile

I've got the new Aerotank base coming for it, should be even better with decent airflow smile

Not a patch on a proper Dripper bit still very handy to try different juices out with a NV/Cammy coil.

Decent dripper here mate:

Looks goodm I think ill order that.
Ok baby steps. I know it needs coils and that people wind themselves but what would be your choice if I bought premade. I don't want to sub ohm I don't know enough about it.

Then I come over all lazy and buy a pack of Marlboro.

Its up to you. Personally I like the extra £4,000 in my bank account a year. Albeit a small percentage gets spent on juice and coils. As for lazy I can pick up a vape have a few toots and put it down, who wants the hassle of smoking a whole cigarette hehe

Never bought any mate but I tried a premade coil that came with the Taifun and wasn't that impressed tbh, so just made my own (5 min job)

I tend to use 0.3mm wire mostly, 6 or 7 wraps on a 2.5mm drill bit usually gets me 1.5/1.6ohms
http://www.vape-atomizer-mesh.com/products/Kanthal...

For lower ohms I use 0.4 & 0.5mm but mostly build above 1.0ohms so 0.3mm (28 gauge) does me

Then either organic cotton or better flavour I use Japanese cotton

I've got one each of these coming as they look pretty good/handy

Probably the best bit of kit ive bought though is ceramic tweezers, saved loads of hassle getting the coils right! Plus they're dirt cheap on FT. Price some up from the UK! Big bucks!!!

And important! You'll need an ohm reader to stay safe, plus its handy to build the deck on smile

For the sake of a tenner you can just try one from the market for a couple days and see how you get on wink

Istick and nautilus.....fk me, this thing is good!

Been on Digbys Oriental Plunder on my starter kit for ages and enjoyed it, but MY GOD does it taste different on this new toy! I've been playing with the settings and have found the sweet spot for me is 12.0W - warm enough to get ample throat hit but cool enough to taste like unicorn flavoured cheesecake covered in grated Easter bunny - It is THAT good.

As Dai says, get an ohm checker; I bought one the other day from BA vapes for a tenner, sturdy wee thing that's rechargeable. Some decent wire, and a kuro cooler (that's on my to order list) If I can wrap a coil, anybody can. I'm just getting fed up shelling out for coils.

It's not about the cost. I just find that I don't know anywhere that sells them and I wouldn't know which one I'd like. I just know that I like Marlboro or Embassy from experience!.

Good for you, but that doesn't mean there isn't a problem with iSticks. Great when it works, though.

Kanger Subtank Mini.

First impressions are very good. Stuck the 1.2 ohm coil in (I'm not intending to go back to buying premade coils, but it comes with two plus the RBA section) and filled her up with Peachee fields juice. Flavour is very full, vapour is good on the middle air hole setting. Fully open it's proper airy, bit tight for me on smallest hole. Takes 4.5ml juice.

Paid £24 I think from UK E Cig Store, on offer til the 26th, free delivery, and POTV coupon gets you an extra quid and a bit off.

Oh, looks the shizzle on the Hana as well wink love the look of it!

Robin, if you're interested in giving it a go, there's three things you need - a battery, an atomiser, and liquid.

The first two are easy - the istick and mini Nautilus are the current daddies for both new starters and experienced vapers who want something small, powerful, simple and relatively cheap.

There are links over the last couple of places.

As for Liquids, try them all! Most people find that whilst they preferred certain fag brands, they don't actually like the taste of cigarettes. You'll never get a direct match anyway as you're not burning anything (oh, and your taste buds will reincarnate after a week or two changing everything anyway!).

So most tend to buy the flavours they like outside of smoking. For me, that's fruity and dessert flavours (custards, fruit salads, cheesecake, etc.) and there's plenty of variety.

Can that tank work with BVC coils? They are all I am used to and I like the self-contained nature rather than pssing about with wicks etc myself.

I am after something with a bigger tank than the K1 I have started off with as it needs refilling several times a day.
