Big Bums and RS seats

Well that is disappointing.

Went to check out a 993RS today. I must confess that the seat was a little bit of a squeeze for the slightly larger man.

I am not built like a midget F1 driver. I am also not large either, but I must admit that I would consider the seat to be too tight for an extended drive.

GT3 racing recaros are fine, however.

Were people simply smaller in the mid 1990's?

And can anything be done about it? I see the 964RS has similar seats.

do GT3 bucket seats with runners available for fitting in either 964 or 993 porsches.

You can either sell the original RS buckets for quite a high price I am told to offset against the new seats cost. Or keep them and reinstall them upon resale time and resell the GT3 buckets, again redusing the overall cost.

Get yourself either a sparc o evo 'L' (not the XL - they're like shackltons high seat chairs), or a recaro pole position. They offer about 10-20mm more around the hips and improve comfort no end....

The Rs was available with comfort seats, these are the same shape as the sports version of the 993 TT seat without any electrics.
The RS bucket seats do make a lot of difference to the way the car drives. If you cannot fit in the seats, maybe the concept of a lightweight Porsche may be slightly wasted on you?

The best car I ever owned was my 993C2. I replaced it with a 996C4 ( doh ! ) and I miss it every day.

As I am now looking for a sporty little number as a second car ( I'll tool around in my Cooper S works day to day) then it made logical sense to get a rawer, purer 911 experience. So I am thinking 993RS or GT3. The idea of a lightweight Porsche is therefore entirely appropriate I think..

GT3 race seats are fine. But maybe a 993RS might have to be in comfort spec, or a retro fit GT3 style seats as mentioned above.

I also have to decide between LHD or RHD. Especially as I am now a part owner of a holiday home in France and I fancy the idea of extended hooning Porsche style in that fair country.

Dick Lovett Swindon have a 993RS RHD under £60k ( cheaper than all the specialists ! ) ...

Decisions decisions. Although I am good at making decisions at work, I am crap at deciding over things like this. I can be a car salesmans nightmare..

Having been honoured recently to passenger something similar, I can honestly say that if I had my time again, this would be my route into 911 ownership.

...Gently upseccing to RS'R' standard and thence, several crashes later, to a GT3-R and I suspect a nice collection of variously coloured nomex romper suits.

I'm beginning to see the light...Domster, Clubsport!
