Hello

I'm on the lookout for a nice example, Stingray C3.

I don't know where to begin apart from the fact that I seen one in the flesh and now want one !

I've had a look around Autotrader and various websites.

Any help anybody can give would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards.

Try the back of Classic American magazine, every month. Or you could import one from America. Places like Claremont Corvette have them but they tend to be at a more expensive level. Finally, try going to the Billing All Clubs Rally on the 14th/15th August where you'll find a gathering of a few thousand American cars including the Corvette Club.

Basically, importing works like this: price in dollars plus shipping ($820)plus marine insurance ($400)converted into pounds at the prevailing rate (currently about 1.8)then add 10% import duty then add 17.5% VAT to the total. Once it gets here, you have to get it MOT'd and register it (£38).

Try posting your request on the UK Corvette Club website - you might prompt someone into selling who hasn't advertised their car. Make sure you get someone in the know to check out any car as these C3s can be troublesome - usually a combination of their age and neglect. The Club Chairman (Rick Bufton) offers this service.

The club website address is:

Good luck with your search.

I had another thought. This car is mint - I saw it at Billing and the Nationals. The seller is going back to the US so he will surely take an offer. Not sure if it is what you are looking for as it doesn't have chrome bumpers.

Wow, much as I love Corvettes. 15k, or even 13, or 12 for a '78

Someone tell me I'm dreaming.

Last Sunday at North Weald there was a vette ('80 at a guess) that the owner apparently turned down 30 grand for.

It was nice (no surprise there) but 30 grand, come on.

The mind boggles as to what a 69 427 must be worth...
