Help! My air con has died. I took the Monaro out earlier in the week and found that the air con wasn't working. I popped into my local garage and he regassed it for me, His warning was that even though he couldn't see any leaks the coolant was 100% empty which he says is unusual. to be on the safe side the coolant he put in has a florescent dye that should locate any leak next time.

Anyway, long story short, two days later the air con is knackered again. Obviously I'll take it back this week but does anyone have any similar experience or fixes.

Well, it is the obvious Rick!....you have a leak!...take it back to the garage, they should have the ultraviolet torch that will show up where the green florescent additive has leaked out,,,could be absolutely anywhere but condensers and around the compressor are favourites.

Good luck.

Just had mine regassed, and seems to be working well .. for now .. he says touching some wood very quickly!

Anyone would think these cars weren't designed to be used in a hot country!

A while back kwikfit would fill you AC system , if it dident work they would give you your money back. But if they suspect a leak they are not allowed to fill it with refrigerant , they fill it with nitrogen ( or something) and a dye to find the leak. makes sense as the refrigerant is not ment to be released into the atmosphere. and it was about £45 a few years ago.

Which pipe is it that regularly fails?

My AC is like a hot air gun now.

ITS the main one if you look at the car frontal open bonnet and its on the right hand side of engine bay.

Mine started going several years ago. Since then it has had every single part replaced at least once and cost a small fortune.

I still wouldn't be without it (the car or the a/c!)
