great live performances -you tube
Discussion
ok, personally, i think most modern stuff aint that great, i'm getting older and my dad was right all those years ago.
So most nights I trawl you tube looking for great live gigs from big bands over the years, i've watched Thin Lizzy, Fleetwood Mac, Free, Queen, Aerosmith, GnR, Jonny Cash, Beach boys, anything really, what do you suggest?
What have i missed over the years? I want to see influential bands, the originals!
Check this out Guns N Roses 1986 and have the audience are not even listening!

I have had that on my favourites list for a long time, its fab. As a longtime NIN fan and all round 80's electronica geek I was very excited when I first heard it. I once randomly met Gary Numan and told him how good it was, nice chap too.Gary Numan with Nine Inch Nails: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qlUFKFHNIU
ALL this is tremendous. Les Claypool and His Fancy Band

AC/DC in stunning form at Essex SU Dancehall, Colchester.
I saw lots of bands here in my late teens including a memorable night with The Ramones, but I really wish I'd been at THIS gig..

Tsk... not even close to THEIR best live, in my opinion. Freddie was always too scripted, same old patter every time. Great band, though.
Big Queen fan here, and have seen most of their Live stuff, but Live aid was different, as they were not really expected to be that impressive, particularly because of the sound setup. It was the only 'hairs standing up on your neck' performance that day, IMHO. Ferg said:
I saw them 5 times in all and Live Aid was just souless in comparison to other gigs I saw. Seeing bands in stadiums = Mistake...
I suppose that was because with their own gigs, they had the crown, their own setup, etc. it may well have sounded better, and all that Jazz, but I think their LA performance transformed that concert from a parade of artists, to a gig when they showed up.Although I'd not say it rates particularly high in my own favourite live performances, I'd put their New London Theatre 6th October '77 as being the best I saw them. The band were on fire and the set was unusual containing Jailhouse Rock (although they took to doing it subsequently) and See What A Fool I've Been.
Two that immediately spring to mind, for me.
Thin Lizzy - Still In Love With You
John Sykes' solo for me is one of the greats.
&
For The Love of God - Vai @ Seville 1992
Vai's first, and best, live performance of the tune. Just majestic.

It should be crap, as it's all over the bloody place, but somehow that just makes it better.
Antony Bray aka Abaddon is one of the nicest people in metal I've ever met, and he's got loads of funny stories to tell about Venom, home made pyros indeed.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZojdZGkojas

Considering how many times he must have played it before and his age; incredible.
